Reach for the Stars The yearbook theme for 1983 Reach fo th S 'I , r e tars represents the spirit of America throughout its history. Few phrases represent this spirit better. Go for it You can do it are co h ' , , mmon p rases in our vocabulary and they mean much the same thing. Browning says it most beautifully in Andrea Del Sarto Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for? Each phrase represents the spirit of adventure and high expectations. Each speaks to the spirit in man and woman to fulfill hopes and to make dreams realities. The Class of 1983 . isis a c ass which sets its hopes and aspirations on the very highest goals. I admire and respect this d ' ' ' esire and I wish you all the best in attaining these goals. I do ask, however, that you take time in your lives also to see the wonder of the stars. The stars represent one of the miracles of this life. A speaker I heard recently said it beautifully, We walk among miracles and we do not see them. When we reach for the stars let us also reach out to one another. Let us also look around at the many miracles in our lives and find pleasure in them and an appreciation of this wonder-filled world in which we live. In Thornton Wilder's play 0ur Town Emily came back from the grave for one more look at the town and the people she had known. After anguishing over the beaut of it all h y s e asked the question, Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it - every, every minute? Let us try. is a class which looks to the dream ofwhat can be Th' ' I Dr. Charles Goff F if N

me g,gl at V Q? if . e V A -..,l Millions of what? Millions of those little objects, he said, which one sometimes sees in the sky. Flies? Oh, no. Little golden objects that set lazy men to idle dreaming. As for me I am concerned with matters of consequence. There is no time for idle dreaming in my life. Ahl You mean the stars. - THE LITTLE PRINCE The sky's the limit for the members of Wayland High School. Any glittering goal we desire, be it fame, fortune, or family, is within our grasp: all we have to do is reach out for it. and make it ours. Determina- tion should bring stellar success to everything we do - today's idle dreamers are the superstars and astronomers of tomorrow. So stretch out a bodily part for that celestial object consisting of a self-luminous, self-containing mass of gas! And remember . . . All men have the stars ,... but they are not the same things to different people. For some who are travelers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others who are scholars, they are problems . . . You - you alone - will have the stars as no one else has them - GO FOR IT! it

OUR STA We, the Class of '83. hereby dedicate the 1983 REFLECTOR yearbook to our star. Nlr. Frank Smith. Yet I had rather if I were to choose, Thy service in some graver subject use. Such as may make thee search thy coffers round, Before thou clothe my fancy in fit sound: Such where the deep transported mind may soar Above the wheeling poles. and at Heav'ns door Look in. and see each blissful Deity , How he before the thunderous throne doth lie. Listening to what unshorn Apollo sings E5--c ix To th' touch of golden wires, while Hebe brings Immortal Nectar to her Kingly Sire: .
