The Latin Club began the year by extending an internal welcome to more than seventy initiates - nevvc omers to one of the most active clubs in the school, With the enthusiastic aid of Mr. Smith, members contribute their time to the production of classical affairs, sponsoring the performances of visiting ar- tists vvith great success. Early this year an original interpretation of Homer's lliad was presented by The Bard, Good food and entertainment drew throngs to this year's Saturnalian Banquet. Wayland High Schools longest running event. Also scheduled for the year are the appearance of Professor Peter Arnott and his marionettes, the presentationof Euripedes's drama The Bacchae and a Medieval Pilgrimage to the Red Coach Crill. Finally, the activities of the Latin Club extend well into the sum- mer vvith a month's sojourn in Italy. And there's only grape juice in these pitchers Q7 c-34.2 Witter this - we eat ' The twenty-first annual Saturnalian, a celebration from out of the past, was highlighted this year by an original jazz musical- comedy titled 'iStultus, written and directed by senior classical studies students with the help of Mr. Smith. Centered around a clumsy but enthusiastic candidate for epic heroism tportrav ed by lim LeBaronl, the tale related the applicants troubles in ear- ning his hero's license, Assisted by great Roman heroes, Stultus gains the license boards approval in high-stepping stv lei Sparkl- ing performances turned in by Dan vassilovslci, Maura O'Don- nell and Michael Faigen las the star-crossed lox ers Aeneas and Dido, and as Pluto, punk lead singer of The Flames and ruler of the Underworldl received well vvishes from the audience Other cast members included leff Lyman, Risa Dinman.
