Each of us is transferred from a king or queen of the elementary school to the lowest of the high school, truly, now the bottom of the totem pole. Each passing week smoothes our course, however; and we adjust to the changes and the first stage of the climb is completed. 2

Organizations such as junior high choruses, junior band, and speech club begin to interest us. Soon we find ourselves patiently waiting for the opportunity to participate in other activities, to take a real place in school life. The second hurdle in the climb is now safely passed. 25
