ifnvnwnvil The theme of our Yearbook this time concerns the Atomic Age Throughout we have tried to preserve and develop this theme to make a better Yearbook than ever was published before We live in times of great National and international dispute over the control of atomic energy It is a vital question which concerns all of us, whether or not we care to admit it The fate of the world, to a great extent depends upon how the problem is settled The control of the atom gives man a force and power greater than he has ever before dared even to contemplate There are two ways that atomic energy may be used One way is for destruction, and the other is for peacetime purposes We already know how to use atomic energy for the former Too little thus far has been learned in the direction of the latter that of peace For all practical purposes, the point to where atomic energy may be developed is almost limitless The testing of more destructive and deadly bombs and weapons in New Mexico is ample proof of this It is now considered that Russia has the secret of the atom it is important for all of us to comprehend the gravity of the situation as it now stands We must remember that we are up against a nation striving to win an armament race which undoubtedly includes the ato bomb Many feel there is no hope Your Yearbook tries to promote a different more optimistic view Perhaps the world will see the folly of atomic war when it discovers the sparkling possibilities for peacetime use of atomic energy Anyway, we of the senior class hope you like your Yearbook and enjoy its hopeful theme We think it is a most timely one but new unlock alwab within her grasp. Since Russia is our chief rival of the moment,
