,wx FOREWORD We f el that the motto of the class of 47 'Nil desperandum,' is especially appropriate since we were compelled to work during our last year under great handicaps To Tnose w o have not pursued the rosy paths of Latin, this motto mean ' ver despair Last June 29th a tr gic disaster partially destroyed Wayland G ntral School During the night, unknown to anyone, a sm ldering fire gr dually burst into flame This flame grew larger and was not discovered until 4 OO A M., when a taxi cab driver fortunately was passing the school and saw the flames Shortly thereafter the whole town was full of confusion as everyone rush d to the scene of the fire It was several hours before the fire was under control As a result of this tragedy, the faculty and ,mawg inconveniences such a disaster can bring Many of the grades have been moved to nearby towns and to local churches Buses had to be provided to transport these students This need of transportation causes waste of time, making it difficult for teachers to cover the required amount of material Some of the departments suffering the greatest handicaps were the Industrial Arts, Homemaking, and Commercial These are only a few of the problems and inconveniences caused by the fire The way in which everyone has carried on in the face of adversity without complaint seems to us a good ustration of our theme, 'Nil desperandum First Evangelical Church Methodist Church layland Uayl-and Cohocton, Atlanta School St Eauls Church Springwater School wayland 2 YW! , wiv 'txt dln-.n-s-l---- v ---f -- ---'- . , Q I , v 1 ' . o ul , ' . 1 59 Ne .
