Dear Students: The responsibilities of my office have enabled me to observe closely student affairs outside the classroom. These extra-class activities are an important part of college life, helping to make you a more mature person, better prepared to meet the problems of the future. I hope you have taken full advantage of these opportunities. ' As you look through the pages of this book recalling the events of the year, may you be reminded that college is not merely preparation for life, but that it is life. I hope that you have lived it to the fullest and that you have benefited from these experiences to the limit of your ability. Sincerely Maurice Sharp, Dean Of Students Christian college. ., .- To- the Student Body of Wayland College: The world's greatest figure in the diamond industry was quoted as saying There is a special place reserved in hell for the mining man who does not dig the deposits the good Lord has given him. A philosophy of development so explicit and commanding is not unworthy of a Wayland's potential deposits are rich and the task Q of locating and developing them is a challenge not only L of tomorrow. 41-Feb- Dear Wayland Students: What is school spirit? It is that intangible quality that makes one school different from another. Where does it come from? Largely from you students, your attitudes and your actions. You then are the Wayland Spirit! What have you this year contributed? My opinion is that you have contributed much in 1957-58. You have provided a nucleus for growth in student spirit through your cooperation in many activities and your pride in your college. In next session's Golden Anniversary celebrations, you can play a still greater part. You will, won't you, appoint yourself a member of the Public Relations Staff for 1958-59 to insure our making Wayland Baptist College known in many areas we have not as yet reached and to insure that all of us will be proud of our Colden Anniversary, which is but a marker to a greater second half centiu'y of service. Sincerely, QXWOZWV Ailese Patten, Director of Public Relations - . to the administration of Wayland College but to every alumnus and student as Well. A fuller, larger, and better Wayland is our aim. This aim spells thenecessity for not only an official college development program but presupposes a conscious and mature alumni philosophy as well. May Waylandis students of today be among her foremost builders Sincerely yours, Tom Parrish Director of Development
