RAYMOND A. PATTERSON, PRESIDENT As the present year i954 started, Wayland came under the leadership of a nevv president, Mr. Raymond A. Patterson. Mr. Patterson succeded Dr. Weimer K. Hicks, who is novv the president of Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Nlr. Patterson has long been associated with Wayland. He came to Wayland in T936 as a Freshman and graduated in l94O. He participated in dramatics, the choir, student activities, and was one of the best athletes in the history of the school, taking part in football, basketball, and track. His high iump record has not yet been broken. Mr. Patterson then went to the University of Wisconsin where he gained fame as one of the greatest basketball players to attend the University. ln T944 he was named to the All-American basketball team. ln T948 Mr. Patterson returned to Wayland as head basketball coach and science and biology instructor. He also did work in the public relations department. Mr, Patterson is a well-established member of the Beaver Dam community. He is a member of the Rotary, a deacon and trustee of the Baptist church, a member of the Wisconsin W Club, the Wisconsin Alumni Association, and the Wisconsin Memorial Union. Mr. Patterson has the support of the entire student body and the faculty in his iob as headmaster of Wayland. It is with confidence and great respect that we look to our president, Mr. Patterson, for his leadership as we approach the lOOth anniversary of Wayland Academy. Page Eight
