Radtlce Ti-IE ORCHESTRA AND SWING BAND 'HE Wayland orchestra has grown from a small group to an ensemble with prcmise of becoming a major campus organization. Before Mr. Sam Siurua returned from the service at mid-years, Miss Berniece Loizeaux directed the orchestra. It has played for several Functions in the auditorium-the three one-act plays and the March forensic contest. At present the group includes iour violins, a cello, two clarinets, two Flutes, an oboe, two saxophones, three trumpets, two trombones and a drum. The swing band was organized last year and plays for its own enjoyment as well as Tor the enter- tainment oi others. The group plays arrangements oi popular songs and specializes in solos by its star musiciansf-Tom Radtke, Gordon Justus, and Dicl4 Corey. At the senior Snow Ball, the swing band played several numbers and performed again at the W Club Kings' Ball. Billie Jo Fisher and Babs Burt act as accompanists. ORCHESTRA r Row one'J. Newton, J. ENSEMBLES 'JRYLAND has long been proud oi its musical groups, and the T945-T946 season in Roundy has been particularly good. The major group is the church choir, whose members are chosen lor quality of voice and general musical ability. The choir sings regularly at the Baptist Church and has presented several special programs . . . the V.W.C.A. Christmas pageant and the Good Friday service. The chapel choir, consisting ol girls vvho sing in the regular chapel services, provides anthems lor special occasions. Members oi the choir are trained to join the church choir. Mrs. Sam Siurua, director ol both choirs, deserves high commendation lor her Worl4 in training such excellent groups. Quinn Murphy, organist in the church and chapel, also merits praise.
