Billy Gibson Assistant Editor. . .Julia Shumaker Business Manager . . . Lee Marr Z Assistant Business Manager. . . Bonnie Caruthers The Staff of the 1957 Wave has selected as its theme a story of a sea voyage. As you read your Wave, imagine each class sailing on a long sea journey. Waverly High School . . . Waverly, Illinois. COLDIE E. BIVIN DEDICATION She has worked untiringly with students of Waverly High for a number of years and during this time her patient understanding and generous giving of her time energy have been unlimited. It is upon her shoulders that the bulk ofthe reponsibility of pub- lishing The Wave and the school paper falls. She has given much of her own time to these causes, not to mention the headaches and sleepless nights she spent over them trying to think of ways to make them more desirable to us students. With appreciation for her guidance, her patient understanding and willingness to work with us students, we have grown to love her. It is hard to express our gratitude, but it gives us, the staff, great honor to dedicate the 1957 Wave to Mrs. Bivin. RON HUNT FFA 1,2,3,4, Sentinel 45 W Club 2,3,45 Camera Club 2. ' .7 K ' 1' f -- N ..,g -K Q - t Riding the waves, and shooting the breeze 3 Here our guide leit us, all on our own, Away we seniors go. Said, Good-bye, good luck, and left us alone. With Laddie and Blaine in the cockpit, Where we end up nobody will know. Our first stop was at a little cafe 5 We walked inside, quite neat I would say. Out toward the wild blue yonder, In front of us, we saw this poster: Jody and Julia know where we're bound. The Lyons'--Francis, Judy, and Billy the boaster. It's either to hell or heaven, Or some other hollow grotmd. When we finished our meal, we went across the street, Where we found Ron Hunt selling colorama sheets , Maybe it's Mars or Venice, Behind him was Deatherage modeling bathing suits, Well, it doesn't matter, anyway. And Karl Jones selling cowboy boots. I We'll all end up together, X fhy If Hershel gets his way. This store was quite interesting, but on we must go, 5 I To make the rounds before we run out of dough. . tp We were sitting quietly in our seats and wondering The next stop on the block is the barber shop, Q What could be going on back home. With the Branhams giving new haircuts called The Mop When to our ears there came a screaming, It was just Dale wanting to go home. The time was slipping, we started for our places, Coming down the street were two familiar faces. .. Beverly, Nancy, and Bonnie, As we get closer, we can see, ' 'Q Are now sitting up straight. A couple of classmates they used to be. , : I L More attention they'll pay from now on, I ' . . , a 4' . , ,h,, -'1,-- MX . ,C Now it doesn't pay to fall asleep. Across the way, an object we see, Gibson with binoculars, says it's an island with trees. Mayberry screams It's the pearly gates. Just a minute, kids, and we ll soon see. As we come closer, we CAN see, lt is an island with pretty green trees, Miller suggests we stop for a bit, To get fresh water and clean out the ship. We docked our ship and went ashoreg Only to End a friend once more. He walked slowly and wore a smile. He asked us to come in and stay awhile. Only too glad to fill his wishes, We Went inside, found LaVeme doing dishes. We tipped our hat and with a sigh, Asked the endkeeper, if we could go by. He took us to a little town in the middle of Where we found stores, parlors, and cops the block, Why, It's Freesmeyer and Marr we were told, Had left the crowd early in search of gold, Lee now weighs that 150 he used to dream of, And only last year Norma won the Golden Glove . Hurry up now, ta.ke off is in fifteen minutes or sog Laddie and Blaine have their seats and are ready to go. Then there was a yell and all climbed aboard, And off we went with quite a load. Two hours after take-off and the roll call is complete, Harrington, M. Carutheis, Lamper and Lowery the time did not meet. Don't worry about them, they'll find new als, And someday make a lucky guy a wondergll gal. As we check the list closer, Where did Slavens go? We all started looking to and fro. Come to find out, he is fighting for fame, Believe it or not, Uncle Sam is to blame. We 've enjoyed this trip more than worth can express Some day We'll retum and be your honored guest. --Norma Freesmeyer 7 IIT. I 9 Y ra X4 Kc Nl 'ft X, ,x x, rx. -' -,yt if 'X J I K j . rg, TK ln.
