Mr. Laugham is the Assistant Principal and teaches Industrial Arts, He is advisor to the Industrial Arts club and the Student Council. He attended grade and high schools in Pleasant Hill, aftr which he enrolled at Illinois State Normal for four years. He has also attended the University of Missouri, Colorado State Teachers, and the Univer- sity of Illinois. Mr. Laugham began teaching in Franklin in 1928 and taught there for fifteen years. He moved to Waverly in 1943, and has taught here since that time. He is married and has four children and three grand- children. LUCILLE HAGEMAN, PH. B., A,B,, M,A, Miss Hageman teaches U. S. History and Govemment-Economics. She also directs the Music Department and is sponsor of the Music Club. She attended grade and high schools in Wanenton, Missouri, She has attended Central Wesleyan College, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of South Carolina. She began her teaching career in Blackwater, Missouri. Miss Hageman has also taught in LaPlata, Missouri and Sesser, Illinois. She came to Waverly ln 1947, and has taught here since that date. JOE SPALDING, B.S, Mr. Spalding is tl1e Coach at Waverly High School, He also teaches Physical Education and World History, and is advisor to the W Club, He attended grade and high schools in Matthews, Missouri, after which he enrolled in Murray State College, Kentucky. He has also at- tended the University of Illinois. Mr, Spalding began his teaching career ln Zalma, Missouri, ten years ago, He has since taught ln Kewanee, Missourig New Madrid, Mlssourig Longview, lllinoisp and Pleasant Hill, Illinois. He moved to Waverly in 1952 and has taught here since then, Mr. Spalding is married and has one son. ALBERTA TERNEY, B.S, Miss Temey teaches Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Homemaking and Senior Homeliving. She attended grade school in Detroit, Michigan, and high schools in St. Louis, Missouri, Later, she attended Carthage College, Illinois. This is her first year of teaching, RALPH TWENHAFEL, B.S. Mr, Twenhafel teaches Vocational Agriculture and is advisor to the F. F. A, and the Senior Class, He attended grade school at Neunert, Illinois and high school in Gorham, Illinois, He has attended the University of Illinois and is continuing his graduate work there, He began his teaching at West Pike, Kinderhook, Illinois after graduating from college in 1951. This is his first year at Waverly High School, He is married and -has two children and resides in Waverly. GOLDIE E, BIVIN, B,S, Mrs. Bivin teaches typewrltlng, bookkeeping, shorthand, and busi- ness machines. She is also the Wave Staff advisor. She attended grade and high schools in Higbee, Missouri, after which she enrolled at the Teachers College, Kirksville, Mo. for fan' years. Mrs. Bivin has also attended the University of Missouri and me Knapp Business College in Tacoma, Washington, She began her teaching career in rural schools, advancing to jtmios highs, and later tc business training in high schools. Mn. Bivin became the Secretary to the President of Hannibal-LaGrange College ln 1947. She came to Waverly in 1951, and has taught here since then. She is married and lives on a farm near Girard. 7w4ffff LUCILLE W, EDWARDS, A.B, Mrs. Edwards teacher English and is the Librarian. She is the advisor to the Senior Class. After graduating from Waverly High School she attended Illinois College and Mac Murray College at Jacksonville, Illinois. She also attended Normal University and Missouri State Teachers College. Mrs. Edwards began teaching at Waverly in 1936. She resides here with her husband and her son. CHARLENE HOBBIE, B.S. Mrs, I-lobbie teaches Physical Education. She ls the advisor to the Freshman Class, and to the G. A.A. She attended grade and high schools in Jacksonville, Illinois, after which she enrolled in Mac Murray College. She began teaching in Waverly upon her graduation from college in 1950. Mrs. Hobbie ls married and resides with her husband in Waverly, ROBERT LAWTON, B.S., M. ED. Mr. Lawton teaches general business, physics, algebra, math, and geometry. He is advisor to the Sophomore Class. He attended grade and high schools in Plymouth, Illinois. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa, the University of Wisconsin, Knox College, and the University of lllinois. He spent two years in the Navy, and came to Waverly in 1948, where he has taught since then. Mr, Lawton is married and has two children. JAMES CONLEE, A,B,, M,M.E. Mr. Conlee is the director of the Waverly High School Band. He also directs the Grade School Junior Band, He attended grade and high schools in Jacksonville, Illinois, after which he enrolled in Illinois College. He has also taken courses at Mac Murray College and the Vander-Cook College of Music in Chicago Mr, Coulee began teaching in Waverly in 1950. He is married and has two children. wrt-r E. She attended grade and high schools in St, Joseph, Illinois, After graduating from high school she enrolled in the University of Illinois, Mrs. Lowe began teaching at Waverly in 1952. She has since mar- ried and resides here with her husband and daughter. STANLEY MILLER, B, A. Mr. Miller served three years in the army during World War II, After the war, he attended Illinois College at Jacksonville, Illinois where he took his B. A. degree in History, Spanish and English in 1949. He then went to Mexico where he did two years graduate work at Mexico City College, Mexico City, Mexico. He did further work in Education at Illinois College and the University of California, This is his first year of teaching, Mr. Miller is married and lives in Jacksonville. He has one child. This fright didn't last long, however, and they were soon entering into all activites with zest, They chose Coach Lowe and Mrs, Hobbie as their sponsors, During the year the class elected the following to lead them through their first year at Waverly Highg Rochelle Caruthers, Presidents Bob Hall, Vice-Presidentg Mary Ann DeLay, Secretary-Treasurerg and Tom Bostlc, Student Council Representative, Rochelle Camthers was chosen to represent the class on the Wave Staff, Jtme Dudley was picked as candidate for F. H. A. 'Snow Queen, Homecoming King and Queen candidates were Ernie Miner and Wanda Miller. Ioan Edwards and Rosalie Davis were elected Freshman and Sophomore Cheerleaders, When school bells next rang out, only forty-eight Sophomores retumed, These, however, were much older and wiser than when they first began their experiences in high school, During this year they lost three pupils and gained one, Norma Jean Huddleston. Their sponsors dris year were Coach Spalding and Miss Logan, with whose help the Sophomores held several juke-box dances in the gym, Serving as officers this year were: Roger Smith, President: Phil Dossett, Vice -Presidents Ann Summers, Secretary-Treasurer: and Joan Edwards, Student Council Representative. Howard McMahan was the Sophomore representative on the Wave Staff, Chosen for Homecoming King and Qseen candidates were Ken Boyd and Rosalie Davis, Two Sophomores were chosen as cheerleaderg Rosalie Davis for the Varsity Sqrad and Ioan Edwards as Freshman-Sophomore, Forty-six Juniors enrolled to walk the road of learning for the third year, This year their advisor was Mrs, Lowe. Their officers were: Ken Boyd, Presidents Bob Hall, Vice-Presidents Doris Utt, Secretary: Wilma Fitzpatrick, Trea- suserg and Joan Edwards, Student Council Representative. The representatives on the Wave Staff were Don Hart and Joan Edwards, Norma Jean Huddleston was elected Cinderella at the annual F,H.A. Fonrsal Dance, Chosen for Homecoming King and Queen candidates were Tom Bostic and Joan Edwards. Ann Summers was candidate for F. F.A Sweedreart and was elected, The Juniors put on a very successful play tmder the direction of Mr, Cooper, The play was -Hillbilly Weddln by Lelloma Ross, The big event of the year was the annual Junior-Senior Prom which was held on May 14 by the Juniors in honor of the Seniors, The Prom was a big success, Joan Edwards and Rosalie Davis were chosen Varsity cheerleaders. This year, our last, only thirty-nine Seniors returned to the halls of W. H.S, The officers for this year Bob Hall, Presidents Wilma Fitzpatrick, Vice -President: Arnolda Duewer, Secretaryg Mary Ann DeLay, Treasuserg and Rochelle Caruthers, Student Council Representative, Their candidates for Homecoming Queen and King were Ann Summers and Cecil Holloway, and for the first, time in four years the Qreen was elected from the class, Rosalie Davis and Ioan Edwards were elected cheerleaders for the Vanity Squad. Virginia Rhea and Cecil Holloway were candidates for the F.H. A. Formal Dance and were elected King and Queen. Doris Utt was selected by the students and teachers for the D,A,lL award. Wilma Fitzpatrick was candidate for F.F.A, Sweetheart, Mrs, Edwards and Mr, Twenhafel were the class sponsas and Mrs, Edwards directed the Senior Play 'The Campbells are Coming, by Jay Tobias. They elected the following officers: President, Judy Seales, Vice-Presi- dent, Kay Ford, Secretary-Treasurer, Dick Hall: Reporter, Pat Hankinsg and Student Council, Joanne Dippel. Miss Blaze was chosen their sponsor. On September 16, the Student Council sponsored an initiation program in which all the Freshmen became full-fledged members of W. H. S. The Homecoming King and Queen candidates were Gary Howard and Wilma Wood. Wilma was elected Homecoming Queen. Rita Clayton was F. H. A. Queen candidate at the F. H. A. Formal Dance. Three Freshman girls were elected as Freshman-Sophomore Cheerleaders. They were Judy Seales, Sherry Treat, and Diane Simpson. Their second year at Waverly High, only 34 returned. To begin the Sopho- more year the following officers were chosen: President, Joanne Dippelg Vice- President, Dick Hallg Secretary-Treasurer, Sherry Treat, Student Council, Roland Love. The Homecoming King and Queen candidates were Don Hermes and Donna Wilson. Donna was elected Homecoming Queen. The Sophomore float won fourth place in the Homecoming Parade. Katy Turner was the Queen candi- date at the F. H. A. Formal Dance. An all-school dance was sponsored by the Sophomores with the help of their sponsor, David Cooper. Judy Seales and Sherry Treat were elected Varsity Cheerleaders. Joyce Mayes and Sharon Dodd were elected Freshman-Sophomore cheerleaders. They came back for their third year with thirty-seven members in their class. Mrs. Charlene Hobbie was chosen as our class advisor. On September 15, 1953, Initiation Day, we became full-pledged members of the Waverly High School. The program was sponsored by the Student Council. The Homecoming King and Queen Candidates were Dale Sexton and Diane Harrington. We received third on our Homecoming float. Nancy Brown was chosen F. H. A. Queen Candidate. Joe Laugharn was a member of the Wave Staff. On August 30, 1954, all thirty-five of us enrolled as Sophomores for another year of learning. Nancy Treat and Gwen Rawlings were elected Freshman-Sophomore cheerleaders this year and have cheered their team to several victories. Umm! Chocolate Marshmallows. MAURICE ROBERTSON1241 Morrie played halfback and also uarter- back and fills both positions very well. He received a shoulder injury and di2n't see too much action the last few games. He'll back another year. ROBERT HALL 1421 Bob is a Senior this year,and this was his first year out for football and he did a very good job at right end. JOE COLVIN 1181 Joe is a Senior and played right guard. Everyone knew he was doing his share just by looking at his face when he came off the field. DONALD HART 1331 Leon is a Senior and played right tackle and played in every ame. TOM BOSTIC 1291 Tom is a Senior and played center. He did a very good job all ear. EEN BOYD 1121 Flop is a Senior and layed left end and was a good receiver. BLAINE SMITH 1111 'Dog is just a Soplhomore, and played left-halfback, but watch him o the next two years. DONKLD DEATHERAGE 1261 Perch is also a Sophomore and played left guard. He was quite a scrapper. BILL AUSTIN 1221 Bill is just a Freshman and placed in a very difficult position, fullback. But he did a very good job and is expected to improve with experience. GARY HOWARD 1101 Indian played almost any position which was needed. He's a Junior and will be back for another year. CHARLES JOHNSTON 1171 Butch 13 a Freshman and played some left-end and lettered this year. D1ONALD BERNDT 1191 Donnie is a Freshman and played right half at the last of t e season. GENE DODD 1401 Gene played guard, but played defense more than offense and was a real scrapper. Gene is a Senior this year. KEN ROWDEN 1131 Duck is a Senior and played left guard and played both offense and defense very well. EARL DEATHERAGE 12.51 Earlie is a Senior and only played half the season as tackle. Morrie Robertson-Guard. Morrie was the only Junior on the first 5. This was the 31-d year he lettered. He was second in team scoring and a fine play- maker. Bob Hall-Center. Bob earned his Znd letter in four years of basketball. He was the leading scorer on the team. Bob was a very good rebounder. Phil Dossett-Forward. This was Phil's third year out for basketball and Znd year to earn a letter. He was 4th in team scoring and also got his share of rebounds. Joe Colvin-Forward.
