Listen, my Children, and you shall hear. Of a wonderful class--the best for years. In nineteen hundred and forty-eight We entered this school, which we thought great. 1 As freshmen, we were not so green And often made those seniors seem Like folks you've seen who think they're IT Until they're taken down a bit. When sophomores we did become, Things surely happened with a hum The teachers said and sadly smiled. Oh, they'll get over it after a while. Then when the year did fade away, And junior-ship came next our way, We put away our childish pranks, We became the wisest in the ranks. We gave the seniors such a prom They said we'd bankrupt some good farm, But never-the-less they liked to eat And said, That class just can't be beat. But now has come the Years of Years. When we have reached that coveted goal. A few short hours and all is o'er And we shall drift to another shore. For four long years we have toiled together But now the time for worse or better Has come when we must say good-bye . Away from High School soon we'll fly. Farewell, Farewell, W. H. S. We know you are made of the very best. Our memories fond, of you we'll keep Until we go to that long, long sleep. The first thing we did after we had found our way around was elect the following officers: President--Wayne Miner Vice Pres.--LeVonne Le Fenstermaker Sec. and Treas.--John Sexton Reporter--Virgil McMahan Miss Norma Brown and Mr. Robert Lawton were our class sponsors. During the year we had two skating parties and sponsored a Sadie Hawkins Dance for the whole school. Our Sophomore year came around before we realized what had happened. We chose the following officers: President--LeVonne Le Fenstermaker Vice Pres. --Wayne Miner Sec. and Treas.--Bob Staton Reporter--Bill Rowden Student Council--Betty Mieher We had Miss Edith Robinson and Mr. Carrol Lowe as sponsors This year we had a skating party and a hayride and weiner roast. The Junior year, our class had thirty-eight members. We chose the following officers: President--Verna Dorwart Vice Pres.--Russell Morris Sec. and Treas.--Betty Mieher Reporter--Virgil McMahan Student Council- -Harold Allen Miss Edith Robinson and Miss Charlene Holle were our class sponsors. As is the usual custom, the Junior Class was responsible for the Jr.-Sr. Banquet and Prom which was held May 4, 1951, To do this meant raising a lot of money by selling candy and popcorn during noon hours, and at all ball games. We also benefitted fr-om the proceeds from the Coke Machine, A Sadie Hawkins Dance, a Bake Sale, and a Paper Drive. We also presented Hasty Pudding . The members of the cast were Betty Mieher, Naomi Holloway, Donna Chapman, Audrey Gibson, Harold Allen, Donald Mayes, Russell Morris, and Virgil McMahan. The directors were Mrs. Treat and Miss Hageman. Now we have come to our Senior year with much regret to the fact that this last year. The membership was thirty-one. We chose the following officers: President--John Sexton Vice Pres.--Bob Staton Sec. and Treas. and Reporter--Donna Chapman Student Council--Betty Mieher Miss Goldie Pitney and Mr. James Handy were our class sponsors. During the year we had a Bake'Sale, a Hayride, and a Chili Supper. We feel highly honored to have had two girls from our class as Homecoming Queens. Connie Hale--1949. Audrey Gibson--1951. ' Betty Mieher was awarded the D.A.R. award having been chosen by her classmates and the Faculty. The class of '52 has been active in all sports and music activities during their stay in W.C.H.S. The Senior Play was given in April with Mrs. Treat and Mr. Tharp, Directors. To close the year we enjoyed a Banquet and Prom, -'a trip to Chicago, Baccalaureate and most of all--G raduation. in 0.5 'Ep Ul 33 YPD' Oo 0,0 'sfo Us Dm 53 ai C..-1 H3 '34-2 'rn vm Hu-4 HU! Today, we are televising the annual reunion which is being held at the ToshMahal, home of Nadine Tosh. But, before our program gets underway, we would like to say a few words about our sponsor. Folks, Don Pitchford's 'Ooey Gooey Chewing Crum' is now on sale at your nearest Fly-Inn for only fifteen cents. Don't miss this bargain Now as we return to the Tosh Mahal we find thirty of the original thirty-one graduates present. Donna Fitz is exploring the Orient in search of a husband with a shorter name than Fitzpatrick. Some of the world's most famous celebrities are present including Betty Mieher and Bill Rowden, two noted scientists, who are experimenting with social grace and horses. They tell us that Raymond Duewer's jack rabbit, favored 99 to 1, will race with Bill Roach's hot rod. Bill is now the world's champion dare devil driver. Raymond Clark is Waberly's first millionaire after ten years of supplying Billwithjetpro- pulsion. After severalyears of practice, Cecilia Hermes has just finished her novel, How to Complete the Calculator in Twelve Short Weeks. Edwin Dorsey has just returned from Washington after designing the Octagon building fOr the first woman president. Verna Dorwart. Her publicity chairman Naomi Bess, is now vacationing in Waverly after a successful campaign. Across the hall we see VirgilMcMahan, the greatest artist of all time, scribbling figures on the wall. Pistol Packin' Pitney was last spotted flying across the border into Mexico on her radar-equipped wheel chair after the Fells Wargo school robbery by Waverly's finest private eye, Bill Scott, who is right on her tail. Eunice Ladage and Ladora Funderburk are now manufacturing a great seller, Cure or Kill Lovesick Ointment. Their only salesman, Harold Allen, is nationally known for having three feet to stop doors. Wayne Miner has just completed his jet flying carpet in time for Patti Davis to return from Hawaii for the reunion. While Barbara Sims is on her second trip to Reno, her assistant, Donald Mayes is corralling the Horse Meet Inn. He recently lassoedtwo young fillies for cigarette girls, June Rouland and Helen Sexton. Everett Marshall is chief cook, bottle washer, and bouncer. Floyd and John Sexton are now in the car business. They specialize in Henrietta J's. We interrupt this broadcast to inform you that Pistol Packin'Pitney hasjust been captured in the middle of the Pacific where she was floating on her wheel chair Patti's poodle swam to the rescue. They elected the following officers: President ..... Rochelle Caruthers Vice-President ..... Robert Hall Sec. and Treas. . . . Mary Ann Delay Student Council ..... Tom Bostic Mrs. Hobbie and Coach Lowe sponsored a weiner roast at the beginning of the year. The Class chose Ernie Miner and Wanda Miller as the Freshman King and Queen candidates for Homecoming. June Dudley was the Freshman candidate for the F. H. A. Snow Queen, and Rochelle Caruthers represented the class on the Wave Staff. During the year the class has taken part in all the school activities. FRESHMAN CLASS INITIATION Tuesday, September 25, was the most dreaded, but one of the highlights of the year. It was time for the Freshmen to become full-pledged members of the Waverly High School. The Student Council planned a very interesting program. John Sexton, Pres- ident of the Student Council, served as Master of Ceremonies. The students were called into the gyrn singly or in small groups to perform their stunts. First on the program was a piano solo by Rochelle Caruthers, who was blindfolded. Tommy Bostic pulled pins from a hat with his teeth. The result was a black face. Several boys raced from one end of the gym to the other in a sack race. Next on the program was refreshment time with eight girls trying to eat marshmellows on strings. Rosalie Davis, the speaker of the afternoon, recited Mary had a little lamb several times. A very interesting scene took place next with eight boys playing musical caps. Miss Hageman accompanied them at the piano. Six girls performed the difficult task of carrying an egg in a spoon across the gym. They all succeeded without any calamities. Then six boys tried to roll peanuts with their noses. Ten members gave animal imitations, which were very good. The remainder of the girls acted like kittens and had to lap cokes out of a saucer without using their hands. Initiation wou1dn't have been complete without initiating the new faculty mem- bers. Miss Logan, Miss Pitney, Miss Hunt, Mr. Tharp, and Mr. Brown formed a quintet and for their number, sang Schoo1 Days accompanied by Miss Hage- man. Each person taking a part in the initiation was given a candy lollipop. HAROLD LOWERY CLOVER FARM STORES Phone 151 Frozen Foods Waverly, Illinois Z8 S f 4. F'-Q, n '4 'W . Iffv! I.
