Freshman flag corps leads band Under a scorching August sun, parched mouths pressed wearily against cold, unyielding instruments, forcing a flutter of noise into the heat choked air. Sweat soaked hands wrestled with flag poles, mysterious concoctions of synthetic fibers and modern chemicals. Aching feet pounded the dusty earth in endless patterns sending a cloud of dust into the hazy sky. And yet, only two weeks later on a crisp September evening before excited football fans, the forced flutter of noise turned from random, uncertain notes to powerful intentional music. SLOW DANCING to the music of ' Teazer,'' Freshman attendant Jenny Ward and escort Mike Tackett begin the Homecoming Dance with the Queen's Dance.
