I , .ll U s CLASS PROPHECY OF 1957 THE SCENE IS HEAVEN One day while I was dreaming alone, A visitor came to me, And told me in the strangest tone Of the wonders I would see We took a tour of Parad1se, He showed me Just what made it Heaven It surely was a great surprise When l saw the class of 57' He took me to a circus place Where people gathered from every race In the midst of the sightseers thronging around Were Jim Johns and John Parsons the best clowns in town This ctrcus employed the world's loudest barker, And who do you suppose xt was why Shirley Strei tenberger She yelled so loud that people say She could be heard on the moon, several light years away We went to see the football team, And I really don't mean to boast, But under the light of a huge sunbeam It certainly was the most The great Gray Corrnany and Dave Crabtree Were players in the game, With the good old Waverly Tigers, They had previously won great fame Two old friends, Delores Allen and Priscilla Tewks bury They drove not a rocket nor a Cadillac car, 'They sat nobly astride a pet dmosaur At the zoo was a scene I delighted to see, Louise Leatherwood and Vivian Zirzow came rushing to me They told me their specialty truly great news They made brfocal lenses for cross eyed kangaroos Later on as we walked, seeing sights all around, We passed a small building from which came a sweet sound Soothing notes for small children to the tune of Tex Ritter Sung by Genevie Marbury, renowned baby sitter She gave me a note and advised me to see Her old friend, Doris Woodruff, a true celebrity She had entered a contest knowing she'd win, Because she was Heaven's Carmel Quinn A friend of mine who had made a great name Was young Darrell Colegrove, of boxing fame I was pleased and surprised that the records did show, He had taken the Crown from Marciano We went into a burldmg called a dance hall Which had gold inlaid floors from wall to wall THE YEAR 2030 Bob Henry and Danny Shaver played the fiddle lento While 3 000 angels did a dazzling Mambo I was told Ronnie Beech and Bob Williams held sway In the chemistry labs at Heaven's U C L A. It was said they had done profound research to show The drfference between burned hydrogen and plain H20 We next went to where the Ice Follies were staged lo see Lela Nilliams and F11 Line, skating stars of the age They were quicker than lightning with their figure eights, Because they had mastered Jet Propelled Skates Vlrgmxa Boylan and Terry had left the circus ln June, For extended tight rope walking from Heaven to the moon They were famous as stars of unsurpassed talents, But above all they were known for their great sense of balance One day as we viewed the bright country scene Nith its mountains so steep and its valleys serene We saw on the peaks, far beyond cars or boats, Roger Ward and Randy Harrison herding prize moun tam goats On the morrow Iwas happy, and Ihad a good reason I saw Critchfield and Pettit, on my great television Matching Hope, Fields, and Benny all therr talents combined We went mto the Opera House, To see the opera, The Heavenly Mouse Miss Sands and Miss Moore were on the stage, As singers they were the rage of the age The next person whom we went to see Was a world renowned celebrity, David McClelland by name though unable to sing, Was the world acclaimed new Mambo King We went to a concert one beautiful night, The haloed performers were a fabulous sight The dxrector appeared to be a real thriller, He was Dave W Shrader the modern Glenn Miller We passed many farmers at their toil, Among them D Murray, a true man of the soil He had married a cute little girl named Sally, And was the most prosperous farmer in Paradise Valley We saw beauties lined up on the celestial stage, And Joyce Haynes was named Queen of the Modern Jet Age She knew that she'd win, for she was no dope, Because she had always been true to Lux soap We saw the great league games of those days Between the fast Rambow Rats and the bright Comet Rays . . Q I . . . , , , ' u 32 With Kelley and McK1mmy pxtchmg the show There were more curves there than on Marilyn Monroe A celestial hero known by all, I was told, Was E Davis, Jr , pioneer brave and bold. He had once killed a bear which the woodsmen all feared, He was really Davy Crockett without any beard Then down to Saints Speedway to see hot rod races While enloying the fun, I saw two well known faces Gary Adams and Dan Cuckler, the champs on those days Had ,reached supersonic speed with their souped up Model A's Patsy Sharp, who wrote books telling Just how to bake, bake Had zhscovered a new way to serve Sard1ne Cake There was nothing much better, xt was really supreme With a generous portion of Chocolate Ice Cream The famous sports hero of those pleasant days Nas Dave Butler, at second for the great Comet Rays He was really a tower of strength, and 1n sooth He expected to equal the mighty Babe Ruth One night as I l1stened to Big Ben striking seven W1th a roar and a crash, the Marines entered Heaven They came through the streets right in step with the band W1th,my old friend Cliff Work g1v1ng every command One saturday night when we went out to dme, m1ne Then labor was fun, they d1dn't sweep, serve, or scrub, For they were Cigarette G1rls at Chesterfield Supper Club One day in the square, I saw cute glrls rejoice At the sight of a tall lad, at the sound of his voice I was told It was Romeo of Universal fame Handsome Eddle J Blaum all the kids knew his name My old fr1end Dor1s Patterson I then went to see But she wasn't per'm1t7ted to visit with me She was coming to trial in District Court Number Seven, She had smuggled the old Brooklyn Bridge into Heaven As I checked everyone's business fexceptmg my ownj, I heard a clear voice with a Waverly tone As I turned in my place, its owner to see, There stood Marion Welsh, Heaven's one Grease Monkey Ronald Anderson and Jerry were cowboys of fame Their exploits made Kit Carson seem very tame From danger or enemies ne'er did they run, For they were always protected by the1r trusty water un Another old friend had made money galore, Had her rooms filled with currency stacked from the floor She was one of my best fnends Judy E George Better known as the owner of the Uranium Gorge Janet N and Pat Oyer, good pals of my youth In the vast field of cooking had learned many a truth, They knew many ways to the neart of a male, They had Just fimshed a book N1nety Ways to Cook Kale' I was stand1ng one evenmg,Just l0ok1ng about, When a rocket shlp landed., CCCIIIS. Hoffman got out 'Twas her courier ship named Melody June Whxch she used in her work as envoy to the moon We went to the prize wrestling matches one night, And really we saw a delightful slght My old friend Josie Jackson, now called the Blonde Patch, Was starred as a one woman tag team match, I was told that G Deacon was a real V I P , She discovered a pill to impart energy Upon close scrutiny, the real truth could be seen It was a chocolate covered Mexlcan Jumping bean At the Camptown Race Track, where the three year olds race, I heard of a girl who was setting a pace I watched from the fence for the girl was a Jockey Janet Pfe1fer by name, on the nag Rough and Rocky My friends Wise and McDade had done so many good things That they were g1ven two halos and a spare set of wings They appeared every night in their new gold Jaguar twinkling star Gordon O and Costello were sharp one could tell They had brought to completion a gushmg oil well This well, which was known by the name Lucky Seller Made those two more wealthy than John D Rocke feller I was honored when Geraldme and Barbara B Took time from their duties to v1s1t with me They were m1 ty officials, such powers in the state That they were given the key to the Golden Gate Mack Stewart and Stubbs came at World Series Time, And saw the great Yankees, with their team sub11me But these two were rebels, each a wild Redleg fan They soon languished in Jall, which a Yankee Coach ran I was roaming the countrys1de, and who should appear But Keith Gilliam, star salesman, riding John's new Rem Deere A few steps away, Charles M and Loyd S Were building a fence for what use I can't guess They built for eternity, strong, tall, and wide, But unfortunately for them, they were penned up 1ns1de Thus endeth my dream, And the words of this myth I may be off my beam, But l'm your friend SUSAN SMITH 33 , . . .
