(Pitted. 'PtofiAecy While on my way home from graduation, I came upon a railroad station which seemed to have appeared from nowhere. I heard someone announcing that the Train of Tomorrow was ready to leave. The strange name aroused my curiosity to such an extent that I purchased a ticket and boarded the train. I had no sooner sat down than I found myself in an elaborate ballroom which I immediately learned was owned by DEANNA SHEETS and BETTY JO STULLEY. Deanna and Betty Jo were glad to see me, and proceeded to inform me of what was going on. The present occasion was the annual banquet for the outstanding citizens of the year, with ROLAND TERRELL, who had become a famous radio commentator, as master of ceremonies for the evening. Much to my surprise, I learned that every member of my graduating class had been invited and had accepted. I looked around in time to see MARY ALYCE and WADE enter. Mary Alyce informed me that she and Wade had been married for five years, and that Wade was now head coach at the University of Alabama. She then told me what had become of my former classmates. JAMES HENRY was to receive an award for his famous Historical Collections of Alma . The Mathews girls, (SHIRLEY, ALBERTA, and CORA), who had become a famous trio, had volunteered to furnish part of the entertainment for the evening. CARLENE BARRETT was to give a speech on her social work in India. MARTHA DRUM and VIVIAN BOLIN, co-owners of a famous dance studio in New York City, were to be present. GARY PARSONS is to be given an award for his cartoon, Hector the Hippo. I was surprised to learn that many of my classmates are in the circus world. LARRY WONDERLEIGH is the owner of the Wonderleigh1 s Wonder Circus. ROBERTA DEWITT and JUDY HALLO RAN are trapeze artists.CHINK Grinner BROWN, with the aid of his famous fleas (which are furnished by PAT DUNCAN'S Itchy Flea Factory ), is the world's most famous clown. BEN ROSSis now a combination fire eater and sword swallower. JERRY DODD and CHUCK BLOUNT have a famous tumbling act. JACK WORTHEN'S horses are appearing in circuses all over the country. I also learned that a number of my classmates had participated in the Olympics. HELEN PFEIFER is coach of the women's Olympic team. MARY JANE McCOY had won the mile race to become world champion. KAY McKEN-ZIE had set a new high jumping record by clearing the pole forty-five feet. MARY JANE TEICHERT had entered the trans-Altantic swimming meet —she swam half-way across, became tired, and swam back. WANDA THOMPSON had won the shot-put contest. NORMAN WARD is hog calling champion of the world. NELDA PALMER had won the Miss America Beauty Contest. SUSAN REDMAN, the famous actress, had won the academy awardfor her performance in the movie, Heart Breaker . JERI ROBINSON is the mayor of Waverly, which is now the cultural center of the universe. MAJEL WILLIS runs a barber shop for French poodles. BOBBY HOLSINGER is now the owner of the Plateau Restaurant. JERRY KNIGHT in -herited a fortune and has become a play boy. STEVE HARTMUS, the famous Safari leader, has filed suit against BILL OWENS, owner of the largest mosquito 28

JIMMY MEEKER and GWEN HUFFMAN are co-stars in the famous opera Madame Grasshopper , written by NOLAN BEECH. WILLARD HARRIS, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, is famous for his work toward a universal language. JAMES HORN is the Tiddildy Wink Champion of Omega. RONALD WHITE is the star of a new movie series. Tarzan on the Moon . TERRY KLINKER, the renowned carpenter, is manufacturing mouse houses. BOBBY HICKMAN, the racket squad leader in Chicago, has gained control of the underworld by using boxing kangaroos, furnished by PATSY GWIN and TOM HANNAH, who ride kangaroos in an Australian rodeo. CYNTHIA FISH, who dog-paddled across Pee Pee Creek inexactly two seconds, set a new township record. BABS CLAWSON, co-owner of the Fuller Brush Company, has received a fabulous order from her old friend, WILMA ECHARD, who is now ambassador to France. JOYCE REED is the manager of Luckoffs, now in a new skyscraper constructed by FRANK WILSON, the world famous engineer, who has built a swinging bridge from Los Angeles to Japan. BETTY LYTLE, typist for the Secretary of State, helped secure for JOYCE HEIBEL an appointment as a kindergarten teacher in South Africa. BETTY HALL is head of the Home Economics department in Waverly's newest college. SONNY WALTERS, who is a professional football star, raises first class boll weavels as a hobby. MARTHA HOWERTON heads the Jumbo peanut factory in Waverly. PAT HOWERTON has revised Webster's dictionary by adding basic Chinese translations. WILMA LEFLER and WILMA DAWSONtied for Housewife of the Year. JR. EALEY, who has created a drink for dogs called Pupsy Cola, is becoming wealthy meeting the demands of MARY ANNE and BUCKY, whose dog kennel has just been awarded first prize for best all-round dog at the Westminster Kennel Show. As Mary Alyce and I completed our conversation, Mr. Terrell announced that the program would shortly begin. I took a seat in the corner, intending to watcn the awards; but as the lights dimmed, I got one last fleeting glimpse of the ballroom as it faded away. I awoke from my dream, happy to have been in the future, but a little disappointed that Mary Alyce had failed to mention what the future held for me. 29 Jo Alice Patrick
