DEDICATION • We, the Senior Class of 1940, dedicate this, “The Waverley Novel,” to Miss Anna Smith, our first teacher. She taught us how to work and how to play. How well we remember those holiday parties! She is beloved by us, her last class, for her sympathy, kindness, sincerity, and helpfulness. HONORING Anna Smith was born May 22, 1872, and reared at Jasper, Ohio. She secured her elementary and high school education in the Pike County schools and her professional training at Ohio University and at Wilmington College. She has devoted most of her spare time to church work, especially in Sunday School services, where she, at present, teaches a large class of boys and girls of high school age. However, she has also found time to take active part in various worthy organizations and to travel. Twenty-six years of her life have been spent in the schools of our county. Inasmuch as she was a splendid elementary teacher she has left indelible impressions on the minds and hearts of those fortunate enough to have had her as a teacher. Among her pupils, in addition to the graduating class of 1940, are many teachers of the present system and many outstanding citizens of Waverly and elsewhere. Donated By Senior Class of 1940
