1 1 ] I 1 I J I ? ! J 1 I ] I Freshman Class History Frosh’ THE FRESHMAN class of 1940 is the largest class in the school, ninety students to be exact. The upper classmen called us “green” at the beginning, but now they can take that back. During the year, we had several boys on the basketball and football teams, and as for class work — well! Our scholastic teams were all on the top of the lists. Why, there is no limit to our abilities. We wish the freshman class of 1941 loads of luck while we’re breaking records in our sophomore year. Eighth Grade History Eighth E HAVE a total enrollment of seventy-one pupils in the eighth grade. The eighth grade students have contributed their talents to the George Rogers Clark, Betsy Ross, Clara Barton, and Admiral Byrd patriotic organizations; to A and B bands; and to basketball. James Sparks, June George, Kathleen Eggers, and Rachel Carter have withdrawn. Our new pupils are Virginia Ingram and Zelma Davis. Grade Seventh Grade History Seventh In SEPTEMBER of 1939 fifty-nine boys and girls anxiously entered the high school building for the first time as students. They have enjoyed being here because they have worked hard and have always had a friendly rivalry in all of their class work. Ambitious students always succeed. Mrs. Hoeckh directed the organization of two patriotic clubs: “The Virginia Dare” and the “Columbus” clubs of Junior American Citizens. Responsible program committees have presented interesting programs at each meeting. Mary Ewing and George Dixon took part in the Flag Ritual rendered at the regular D. A. R. meeting held in January at the home of Mrs. Myrtle Johnson. Grade New students who entered during the year were: Phyllis Hartmus, Ivan Hoyer, Juanita Claytor, and Earl Leeth. Those who withdrew were: Clyde Carter, Minnard Keiser, Junior Campbell, and Jane Helmintoller. Donated. By S. B. Cutlip
