MR. MART BRANDES - We dedicate with sincere appreciation and our highest regards, this 1958 Go- Hawk. During his second year of coaching when Waverly won the 194-4 State Basketball Championship, Mr. Brandes was chosen as Coach of the Year by the Des Moines Register. As football coach since 1943, he has compiled a record of 95 wins, 34 losses and 5 ties, which is one of the best records in Iowa high schools. Mr. Brandes was an outstanding athlete throughout high school and his college years at Iowa State Teachers College. With such a fine background in athletics and knowledge of sports, he has been able to help boys to develop into good athletes and to realize the value of good sportsmanship. The spirit and enthusiasm of sports participants, reflect his capability as a coach and as an instructor, and confirm his position as an outstanding citizen in our community. 3

And now an increased emphasis on scientific advancement will result in even more wonderful new changes. But the good ethics which have grown from your think- ing and are reflected in your attitude and conduct will not cease being priceless. There is no change in the need for people to be fair, to be self-disciplined to be loyal, and to be ambitious. These have helped you this far, they are also essential to continued success. L. N.
