Bowdish. A BASKETBALL The Waverly High School Basketball team started its cage wars under the guid- ance ot a new coach, H. L. Clatterbaugh. Although only two lettermen returned trom last year's squad, it was a successful season. The prospects tor next year are exceptionally good with only tive players graduating. The team, while playing against very strong competition all through the schedule, won 12 ot their 21 games. The team participated in two ambulance fund benetit games, the two opponents were New Hampton and West Waterloo. The Go-Hawks tinished in a tie tor first position in the Northeast Iowa Conference race and advanced as far as the semi- tinals in the sectional tournament. 6 CRESCO - WAVERLY 0 A strong Cresco ball club stopped the Waverly attack completely while scoring once themselves, to defeat the Go-Hawks 6 to 0. 39 OSAGE - WAVERLY 0 Waverly stopped Osage's line plays but could not stop their devastating end runs. During the second half, Osage scored almost at will. 6 CEDAR FALLS - WAVERLY 12 With Eggleston pitching the passes and Strotman, Parson, and Droste catching them, Waverly bounced back from their defeat of the week before to defeat a previously undefeated, unscored upon eleven from downtown Cedar Falls. 26 CHARLES CITY - WAVERLY 0 The Go-Hawks disappointed the fans from home by letting the Comets outcharge and outfight them throughout the entire game. 7 TEACHERS' HIGH - WAVERLY 0 The Go-Hawks lost a heartbreaker to the Little Tutors from Cedar Falls. One sustained drive, climaxed by crossing the goal line with less than a minute to play, gave them the deciding edge. 0 REINBECK - WAVERLY 12 Waverly finally got back into the win column. Reinbeck did not have much to offer in an offensive way, but were stubborn on defense. 39 OELWEIN - WAVERLY 0 Oelwein climaxed a great football season by drubbing Waverly 39 to 0, and thus gained undisputed possession of the conference crown with a record of 5 wins and no losses. A BASKETBALL LETTERMEN PAUL KOCH-Senior. A hard man to stop and a reliable player on offense. HERBERT HEIST-Senior. A good scrapper, a good shot, and a valuable substitute. .lOl-lN PABSON-Senior. He's best on defensive playing and handy in the pivot position. DAVID PANGMEIER-Junior. Davie gets them from the bang-board and is valuable on offense. DICH ORMSTON-Junior. A ball-hawking forward. Plays a good consistent game. WALTER BLOCK-Junior. A good offensive man with a real eye for the basket. EDWARD DROSTE-Junior. The mainstay of defense, a good rebounder and long shot. .HM STROTMAN-Sophomore. Plays an all around good game. Leading scorer. EUGENE BOWDISH-Sophomore. A good man on fast break and a good shot. B BASKETBALL The B team which is composed of Freshmen and Sophomores completed a highly successful season winning 15 to 17 games. They captured the conference with 10 victories and 0 defeats.
