They adjusted quickly to their new surroundings and chose officers and sponsors as follows: Dick Morton, president, Shirley Strotman, vice president, Don Brandt, secretary, Bill Engelbrecht, treasurer, Miss Schirmer and Mr. Hammerer, sponsors. Most of the freshmen took part in as many activities as the upper classmen and many of them received recognition as a result of their efforts. Don Brandt received his varsity letter in football after only one year experience. The freshmen were also well represented on the B basktball squad. SOPHOMORES The fall of 1940 found a confused but eager group of freshmen entering high school. For officers they chose .lim Strotman, president, Jack Koch, vice president, Harlan Platte, secretary, and Merle Bartlett, treasurer. The Brain Derby found them represented by Nadine Osincup, Wilma Arns, and Paul Bruns. Dick Leslie was their member of the Student Council while Geneva Bergman was the candidate for Carnival Queen. To lead them for 1942 they elected Eugene Bowdish, president, Nadine Osincup, vice president, Paul Bruns, secretary, Ed Ford, treasurer, and Miss Harding and Mr. Clatterbaugh, advisers. Their Student Council representative is Jim Strotman. The B basketball squad, composed mainly of Sophomores, won the Northwest Iowa Conference with an undefeated record. Members of the class were also active in music and G.A.A. ...QQ-
