Senior Class History If anyone had been passing the XVaverly High School one September morn- ing four years ago they would have seen a great number of little Freshmen, very green, and very frightened and I'm sure they wouldn't ever recognize some of our brave and dignified Seniors of this yea11's class. NN-'e came into High School seventy strong, each and every one of us solemn- ly vowing to do our durndest. be the valedictorian, never whisper, shoot paper wads or any of those other childish things we did in the grades. Our Freshman year passed without incident except that the upper classmen realized that we were a very brilliant QFD class and left off jeering at us teven going to our Latin picnicj quite early in the year, for which, I think, every Freshman was very grateful to them for doing. In the Sophomore year we decided that even though class officers werenit allowed until the junior year we needed one, so we elected james Biggs our repre- sentative. To show that We were always full of pep-in our Sophomore year we gave several parties-dances, in fact-although we said it on the q.t -you know what I mean. Several of our boys entered the basket ball team. though only the second team. XVe opened our Junior year by electing class officers, james Biggs as presi- dent, Bessie Lowder as vice president, Mae Heath as Secretary and Ole Luhring as treasurer. We started right out in our junior year by Esther Koenig winning the over-all in the declamatory contest and also Alice Harden received second place, both in the humorous class. Nlfillard Harmon received much praise for his work on the basket ball team. XVe also had Paul Grasstield and james Biggs as subs. VVe chose our class colors, Purple and VVhite-showing our royalty in the purple and our fairness in the white. The big event of the year, in fact of our four years of High School, was the Junior-Senior reception, given April twenty-hfth of 1919. A great many said tand they weren't all Seniors eitherj that it was the best one ever given in Waverly. It was given in the form of a dinner-dance in the W. R. C. hall and was attended in full force by the bolsheviki teachers. The dining-room was decorated in purple and white, and the hall up-stairs in old rose and black, the 1919 Senior colors. VVe began our last year by electing a force of new ofiicers, Paul Grassfield as president, Geraldine as vice president, Rose as secretary, and Royal Krause act- ing as treasurer. With these we elected Mrs. Lennen as our class advisor-con- fident of ending our four years right. VVe had our annual scrap day when we put up our pennant, for which the juniors didn't display any great liking. Every year a few have been dropping out and this year we were sorry to lose some of our best ones-james Biggs, who went to Vermont to finishg Frank Cline, who accompanied his parents to Uelwein, Hans Nolting, who entered the navyg Leo Krause, who dropped-well, because jim and Frank did-but for all lTwenty-ninel

these being gone we have a few noted ones left, such as Luke, the he-cartoonist, and Helen, the she-cartoonist, Fred and Rachel, the sharks in Physics, and the entire class in Senior Civics, Henry, our debater and Sara the man-hater, Kathe- rine, who argues for all that is right, and Gilbert, who studies QFD from morning till night. Erwalt Mattke, the lover, there'll ne'er be another, Geraldine claims the nine coats of powder, while few have been liked more than our Betty Lowder. Now comes the time when we must leave old NVaverly High and choose our different paths in this great world, and I'm sure that there is not a one of us, who, when it comes right down to leaving, but feels a great sadness in our hearts that we must leave the good old high school, and we will always hold deep down in our hearts the memories of the many good times we had in VVaverly High.
