'. ?U -- ' 1 ' 0 -- 1 H 0 ri 2 1 WV Without our realizing it, the best years of our lives have Just slipped by completely un noticed It seems only yesterday that we were looking toward Senior High with wonder in our eyes and minds we could hardly wait until we became the towering upperclassmen Now we are those seniors and will soon be leaving the post to those next in line The Junior High School Class of '49 had the privilege of being the last class graduated under Miss Mary W Muldoon We came out from the protective wing of Junior High School into a new world of showers, falling books, locker combinations, and mad last minute dashes t classes Instead of gaining all our knowledge from books we began to obtain lt through per sonal experience Democratically run government was brought before us with the hale and hearty political campaigning brought about by election of class officers The amount of freedom and need for self discipline at first overwhelmed us but then we began to take it in our stride and wonder how we could ever have been quiet between bells in Junior High Our first step on the long road to our senior trip was the Sophomore Hop This dance along with bake sales, and ban quet servings led the way to a very prosperous sophomore year With all the trials and tribulations of sophomores behind, we entered our Junior year with more self assurance Before we could quite get settled from summer vacation the Junior Plays Prom This was one of the main social events of the year entitled Neptune's Ball The atmos phere at the prom was one of intrigue because the setting was under water Then came class day and when the last senior had left the auditorium and the last strains of 'Where Oh Where Are the Grand Old Seniors' had been sung, it suddenly dawned upon us that we now had the awaited role of seniors The main trouble with being a senior we found was finding time to get every last thing ac complished There were football games in the stadium and much work to be done at the concession stand, basketball games watching our Championship team play, early band practice, club meetings and in between times a little homework and studying for tests At Christmas was the Winter Wonderland Ball with couples all dancing to the dreamy music of Don Alliger's orchestra We have now come to the turning point in our lives Each of us has chosen his own path from here some will go on to further education at a college or university, some the Armed Services, and many will have Jobs awaiting them upon graduation Whatever way we choose, our high school days have well prepared us for the road ahead We have had our gay times at parties proms, and on trips Good sportmanship and fair play have been stressed in athletic functions Cooperation has been an asset in club and class projects Last of all our teachers, the back bone of our incomparable school system, have provided us not only with knowledge but also gui dance to meet the problems of the future 26 . . - O were upon us. The 1952 Wolverines quintet could easily be known as the Hrecord busters.u The well bal anced club of Coach Mi1ler's bounced back after losing their first league game to win their fourth Southern Counties League title in as many years. The nhillermenn broke the school's season scoring mark by scoring 1,235 points for the 18 game season. This was the second year this same five has scored over 1,000 points. By winning the Valley Championship, Waverly gained sole possession of the Valley trophy. This trophy requires a team to win the championship 3 years in succession. Waverly has held the championship, since the entrance of Coach Miller on the scene, for five consecutive years, sharing the crown with Sayre in 1948. Don Axtell became the first player in Waverly's history to win the S. C. L. individual scoring crown. He averaged 24 points a game for a total of 192. Also added to Don's record was the individual high for a Waverly player over an 18 game season, when he scored 411 points. The record of the nM1llermenN 116 21 is not entirely amazing, for Coach Miller has been turning out winning teams ever since his coming to Waverly in 1947. Since his arrival, Waverly teams have won 42 of their last 47 games at home and were undefeated at home this year. The Wolverines carried their league championship into the Section 4 playoffs to finish up their very successful season. 41 ,.' .f N ,W 41 ty ixjxxlyrf 1 D. Johnson, our band was again one to be proud of. The band consisted of seventy members including majorettes. A new addition this year was the new drum major--Jim Manning who led the band during football season. The half-time shows at the football games were indeed something that we shall remember long after many other school day memories have vanished. The band also performed at our home basketball games and all the band was anxious to get under way in spring festivals after the annual winter concert. Waverly can well be proud of its music representatives within the Valley and throughout the state.
