Our sponsor this year was Coach Minnis. The big event for us this year was Freshman Initiation. The next year we came back as Sophomores and old hands at the business. Our class officers were: President, Jerry Isleg Vice-President, Jerry Williams, Secretary and Treas- urer, Carol Northcottg Reporter, Paul Turveyg Student Council, Judy Nelson and Bence Wil- liams. Mr. Towner was our sponsor. While losing four students we gained three. The class lost Wilma Cook, Monroe Foulk, Joyce Williamson, and Brenda Yockey, We gained Ernestine Crouch, Harry Lyon, and Fred Fowler. Serving the Junior-Senior Banquet was the high- light of our second year. As we climbed up the ladder of our high school days, we reached our exciting Junior year. We elected the following officers at our first class meeting: President, Cliff Fischer, Vice-President, Ronald McDonald, Secretary, Carol Northcottg Treasurer, Lynn Perry, Re- porter, Judy Nelsong Student Council, Marilyn Baker and George Michael. This year's sponsors were Miss Keith and Mr. Bowersox. We selected the red rose as our class flower and red and white as our class colors. Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained was chosen as our class motto. Our class roll lost Ernestine Crouch, Richard Godden, Marvin Cromwell, Bence Williams, Roy Bouse, and Larry Barrett but gained back Brenda Yockey, November 22, 1957 was the exciting night of our Junior Play. Under the supervision of our sponsors, we presented Coveralls to the public. On November 22, we received our class rings which we were all very eager to show off. On April 24, 1958, the class carried out the theme Ren- dtezgcgus of the Stars at our Junior-Senior Banquet for our honored guests, the seniors o ' . Upon reaching the fourth and final rung of our high school days we were sad but proud of our achievements throughout the last three years. Class officers this year were: President, .Lerry Isleg Vice-President, Stanley Snyder, Secretary, Cliff Fischer, Treasurer, Norma le' Re t L ' ' ' ' y , por er, ynn Perry, Student Council, Shirley Johnson and Eddie Nutt. Gur sponsors were Mrs. 'Michael and Mrs. Speaks. We lost Patty Yockey, Harry Lyons, John Schmid, Jerry Bowlin, and Larry Allen but the class gained Bill Cook At th f' t f h O , , .. eirsoteyear, feeling yery proud, we initiated the future class of '62. We chose Bulldog Tales as the name ' . o our annual. On April 24, the class presented In Spring The Sap to the public. This proved to be an entertaining evening for all. On April 30, we were the honored guests at the Junior-Senior Banquet. The theme Song in My Heart was beautifully carried out. On May 1, twenty:-six. restless and eager Seniors boarded a chartered bus and headed for our long-awaited ' Senior Sneakt' to be spent at The Lodge of the Ozarks. An enjoyable three days were spent sight-seeing, swimming, boat riding, dancing, and having fun. Bac- calaureate Services were held on May 17, 1959, and Commencement Exercises on May 18 bringing our hi h s h l d ' ' g . uc oo ays to a close. Being full fledged graduates we are ready to be- come tomorrow's citizens. But, let's see who just came in' from the class of '59, In fact, let s look up all the other Seniors of '59, f ' L I see someone down there on earth, but I can't quite make out who it is because of the clouds. Now I can see - - - the clouds are parting Wh ' ' ' , . y - - - it s Marilyn Baker! Now what has she been doing? Oh yes, she's a career woman as well as a wife and mother, the mother of quadtriplets and the wife of Jerry Williams. As Jerry is gone quite a bit Marilyn's other career is just taking care of the farm. As she takes care of the farm, yod can guess who takes care of the checkbook. Wild Bill Cook, is first assistant to Scotty Kane as mechanic at Rogers Motors now. I 'guess the only thing wrong with Bill is that he talks too much and doesn't get much done. Bill learned a lot. about body fixing after someone wrecked his car While he was on the Senior Sneak. Bill is still grateful to the person for giving him the opportunity to fix wrecked cars. After graduating from Emporia State, Cliff Fischer dyed his skin and got a job playing basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters but had to quit beforelong because his color wore off. Now he and his wife, the former Carol Northcott, are raising little basketball players of their own while living in a tent west of town. - . Fred Fowler really does take life easy now as he fell in love with a Hollywood movie star. Fred always said it was just as easy to fall in love with someone rich as with someone poor. Mrs. Gerald Ragin, formerly Patty Hess, is quite happy now running a resort, with the help of her family, on the Lake of the Ozarks. She enjoyed herself so much on the Sneak that she talked Gerald into moving there. Jerry Isle has really come up in the world. He just stepped up from township ditch- digger to township coal-grader. He got his big chance when his dad retired. Jerry is married to the former Cheryl Vuncannon. The surprise of the class is Steve Johnsg quiet Steve turned over a new leaf after grad- uating from W.H.S. and is now living quite comfortably in Arabia with his harem of 39 girls. He supports his wives by running an oil well. ' Dianne Gifford finally married her high school sweetheart, Paul Turvey. They still fight all the time but they are in love. Dianne is kept pretty busy looking after their pigs and kids. Shirley Johnson has a job working in a water-front fish market at Garnett Lake selling fish. Shirley is mourning the death of her fifth husband whom she pushed off the boat dock because he broke her rod and reel. ' ' Judy Kirkpatrick and her husband, Henry Kahle, are employed locally at our missile base northwest of town, they light all the fuses for out-going rockets. Oscar Kistner and his wife Lynda have taken over Oscar's father-in-law's farm and are making money hand over fist. Oscar was just given Coffey County's Father-of-the- Year award. He doesn't have any children, but everyone feelshe would make a good father. Gene Bell, formerly our own light-footed Gene Kunkel, and his wife Donna, are running a beauty salon, Gene's Eenie-Weinie-Slenderella Salon. Proof of the success of Gene's Slenderella Salon is shown by the fact that Gene has slimmed down to a very alluring 113 ounds. p Pat Johnson, otherwise remembered as Pat Martindale, and her family, are living in the Alps on a farm raising mountain goats. From what I hear they are having a rough time of it, as all their goats keep falling over cliffs. Ronald McDonald, formerly a prominent Hereford raiser east of town, has given up th ' ow runnin a dair farm. Ihear Ron's Dad disowned him. 'He e beef business and is n g Y . , , traded the Her-efords for the Holsteins. Ron's first assistant and wife, is a former LeRoy cheerleader, who always used 'to boo him but now adores him. M' h 1, 1'k J Isle, is following in the steps of his father. He has replaced L. DG??Srii,ad 1gtFSet-S1WZepZ?rZ,ifh his neighbor, Ben Dowell, as his assistant. He's still driving his '54 Chevy, but now he has to pedal it. . Lynn Perry Luft just opened up the first Star Grain 8 Lumber Company on Mars with the help of her husband, Vernie. At present they are fighting off the Martians who don't seem to need lumber. They say they quit making their flying saucers out of lumber years ago. Norma Pyle is still living with her parents, helping with the farm work, and also still courting her next door neighbor. She graduated from Emporia State and finished first in her class - - - first from the bottom. But old Norma still prefers overalls and gloves to shorts and blouses. Tony Siebert is employed at Perky's Corner Cafe and soon may move into a partnership with the owner as he is rapidly advancing. Already he has stepped up from dish washer to a dough-nut puncher. You know, he pokes out the middles of all dougnuts. Stanley Snyder has become a legend around Waverly. Little did we dream he would ascend to the great heights that he has. Right after graduating, Stan ran for the City Marshall's job on the Communist ticket and wonhands down. Within a short time he brought Law and Order to town that Waverly has needed for so long. I hear he's especially rough on speedsters, but he has little trouble catching them in his souped-up, square-wheeled Kaiser. Paul Turvey is on a scientific expedition to Siberia right at the present. His work is top secret but from what I gather he is trying to catch the abominable snowman. He ties Dianne to a tree every night in hopes he can lure the snowman close enough to be captured. Jerry Williams is supporting his family by professional wrestling. He can be seen every Saturday night on Channel 13. Jerry discovered his unusual skill one afternoon in Physical Education class when he made Gene Kunkel cry for mercy in a one-fall match. After a long and thrilling chase, sweet little Brenda finally got to change her last name to Hinderliter. Many the sleepless nights she and the rest of us spent wondering how it would all end up, just like a new episode of Dick Tracy. But now they are very happy and Brenda is supporting Dale by working in a- Topeka barber shop shining shoes. Brenda is still quite pretty except her hands are all stained black and brown from so much shoe polish!! Alas, the price to pay for wealth and happiness. Karen Winters, formerly Karen Yockey, and her husband are now living in the county Rest Home enjoying the bliss of being grandparents. They earn their keep by Karen running the local telephone office and then reporting all the gossip she hears to the Waverly Gazette. Well, how about that? I surely am glad to check up on that class of '59, They were a great bunch of kids. If you don't believe me, just ask any one of them and they'll cry out, ' We're really great, we're really fine, We're the class of '59. T 'L' x XX 1 iff xx l x fffffnf X-..x:-Q. me-x-sd!!
