The annual picnic was held. Then the sale of magazine subscriptions to raise money began. A rollicking race helped the profit. Class rings were ordered and received with delight. Rehearsals for the Junior play The Scarecrow Creeps began and the finished product was pre- sented to an approving audience. In .the spring, secret meetings were held as the Junior-Senior banquet was planned. The banquet was the climax to a gala third year. Constitution Type. ui gf . HIUSIC An increase in enrollment started the music department off to a busy and suc- cessful year. The various music groups arethe Mixed Chorus, composed of 72 members, Girls Glee Club, with 38 members, Boys Glee Club, with 34 members, and the Band with 60 members. Under the leadership of Mr. Ben Tice, the Mixed Chorus presented a very impressive service at Christmas time. Later in the year the Mixed Chorus and Glee Clubs attended the Voice Clinic, the District Music Contest at Emporia, presented an Annual Spring Music Program, and participated in the Baccalaureate Services. Blossoming out in their new uniforms, the Band presented quite a spectacle when appearing at the football games this fall. During the school year they took Part in several activities such as Band Day at Lawrence and Emporia State, and Band Clinic, and the parade at LeRoy and Burlington. There have been several new members added to the department, and there will be more, which will help to make the years to come even more successful than the past. 23 . 1 - ,V M7 7 ' M 4 I Z1 . as, GIRLS GLEE CLUB FIRST ROW, LEFT TO RIGI-IT:.R, Bay, E, Brown, S, Bay, K, Whiteside, SECOND ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT' N Markham, V, Raulston, M, Stukey, I. BHSHETBHLL The 1952-1953 basketball season proved one of the best in years for Waverly. The regular playing season was victorious as W. R. H. Coach Welch started the H Y track team during the 1952 season, as Waverly had not had a track coach or team for several years previously.
