Senior Class History On a sunny September morning in 1941. these little fellows and girls bravely entered the shop in which they were to sail tlu stormy sea of education: Leonard Sewell, Carolyn Allen, Margie Mc- Clure, Donald Hunt. Phillip Young. Richard Tolliver, Dwayne Sewell, Gene Leath. Doris Pollock. Billy Joe Rivers. Dale Mitchell, Edward Link. Martha Mae Priebe, Karen Reed, Shirlev Woodcock, Patricia Gibson, Mary Sprague, Betty Stickler, Janet Williams, Betty Hester, Shirley Richardson, Robert Harbison, Richard Smith. Russell Pruitt, Juanita Greve, and Bill Redden. Clifford Hallet was admiral, and Virginia Moore Foster was second in command. As we docked briefly to let off Russell Pruitt and Betty Stickler, Marvin Baldwin, Patty Hitch, and Mary Martha Simms came aboard. On the second leg of our voyage, Rose Glascock took Mrs. Foster’s place. New sailors were Patsy Moore, Ruth Seybold, Richard Stickler, Floyd Dwiggins, Marianna Chappell, Virgie Stewart, and a little later. Darvel and Mary Ann Newell came aboard. Those missing were Margie McClure, Patty Gibson, Edward Link, Phillip Young. Dwayne Sewell, and Shirley Richardson. Leaving port for the third time, Bonnie and Vera Reynolds were our new passengers. Evelyn Douglas, and a little later, Katie Hallett were second in command. Gone were Patty Hitch, Doris Pollock, Flovd Dwiggins, Mary Sprague, Virgie Stewart, and Richard Stickler. At the end of that voyage, we lost Betty Hester and Vera Reynolds. Voyage number four: Dale Leath, Doris Pollock, Charles Jarvis, and Daniel Jackson joined us. Helen Jean Patton took Mrs. Hallet’s place, and towards the end of the year, Bobby Grimes became a new passenger. On the fifth voyage, Ray Miller, and later Elsie Johnson, took charge. The new passengers were Olive Wilson. Edwinna Rosenbaum, and Joe Walters. Later in the year Barbara Waltz and Charles Brown, who left that same year, joined us. Also missing were Charles Jarvis and Daniel Jackson. Voyage number six: Jane Wheeler, Margie McClure, and Carl Moose, with Dorothy McCargue as second in command, started out with us. Olive Wilson was missing. Farther along, Delores Moon, Lester Martin, and Blaine Tracy came aboard. As they did so, the Leath boys jumped off and swam for Crawfordsville. On our seventh voyage, Mr. Gale Grimes took Mr. Hallett’s place as admiral. We were moved to the upper deck, and found we had the following new passengers: Jean Allen. Patsv Brady, Don Horton, and Dean Milligan. These passengers were listed as missing. Carolyn Allen, Edwinna Rosen- baum, Donald Hunt, Richard Tolliver, and Barbara Waltz, and for a very brief time. Carolyn Allen, Joe Walters, Delores Moon, and Carl Moose left. Leaving port for the eighth time, these people were reported missing: Mary Martha Simms, Marianna Chappell, Jean Allen, Alta Mae Smith, and Patsy Brady. To help make up for this loss, we added Martha Mason, Jack Day, and Jack Robbins. Preparing to leave dock for the ninth time, we were moved to a new ship, called the USS High School. It was a little rougher voyage than the first, and most of us went around looking green for a while. Our new passengers were Rosemary Weaver and Neal Rogers from Byron, and Bill Keller. During the process of changing ships, however, Jack Robbins, Jack Day, Don Horton, Lester Martin, Marvin Baldwin, and Karen Reed fell overboard. Dav id Floyd joined us later in the year. On voyage number ten, we picked up Florence Long and lost Mary Ann Newell. As we started out on voyage number eleven, our number had been decreased by the death of David Floyd during vacation. Mr. Victor Pence took over for Gale Grimes. During the year we lost Barbara Waltz, Florence Long, and Bill Keller. At last! The final journey, and everyone shouts with joy as land is sighted. This May, twenty- three weary sailors will stagger off the boat, and board a bus—the object, a trip to Washington, D.C., New York and other places of interest in the east. The End. Page Six
