Class Prophecy of 1953 Good evening, folks, this is Terry Evans, your YVXYZ-TV news reporter. Ah, there’s good news tonight (or is it bad news?)! But first, before we look into this evening’s news, a word from our sponsor. If you feel tired, overrun, and ready to drop, then try our new tonic, the wonderful, superb, and sensational fire water, Servies-Cure-It-All,” brewed in her own still, located two miles north- south of Waveland. And now on with the news: From New York: We have just received announcement of the engagement of Shirley Woodcock, head nurse at Nleadowfield Hospital, to Dr. Fixup, topnotch surgeon. I hear she had to give up her part time job as head demonstrator at the Hula-Hula Skirt Shop, but I guess it was worth it. From Washington: Leonard Sewell’s expedition to climb Mt. Everest will start April 1, 1963. Leonard’s home town is Waveland, where he always did have a nack for high goals. From Waterloo: Billy Jo Rivers, 1953 graduate of Waveland High School, just won the Atlas Prize Fighting Contest with a tremendous crowd standing bv. The prize: one box of Wheaties. The crowd: the class of “53”. From Chicago: Jim Hannah, former coach of Waveland, and his all-star team, consisting of his fixe sons, will meet the Globetrotters tonight in the game of the year. (Be sure and watch your TV). We interrupt this program to bring you this special bulletin: Blaine Tracy, notorious gangster, and Gun Moll Blondie. the former Martha Mae Priebe, have escaped from the Hill and Hollar jail. Sheriff Pence and his deputy. Hi Hall, with his bloodhound nose, are now searching for them. They are beliexed to be in the vicinity of Wapalo. Now, back to the news from Denver: What’s this? John Ward, former county superintendent of schools of Montgomery County, is running a home for retired school teachers at Hot Springs, Col. Mr. Walker has just had communication from Mr. Ward relative to when he thinks the entire Waveland faculty, including Mr. and Mrs. Fred Whitecotton, Mr. and Mrs. Web Eubank and Bob Arvin, will be eligible for retirement and desire rooms. From Waco: Bonnie Reynolds, graduate of Waveland 1953, was married today to Basil Hocker- smith. I see she finally won o rer her sister. (Good for her.) From Gasparilla, Florida: Word was received today from Richard Smith. 1963 Pic Eating Champion, that his wife, the Miss America of 1962, gave birth to a set of triplets last week!!! From Madison Square Garden: Last night Rio Grand College lost its first game in four years. The reason given was that the star. Dale Mitchell, kept running after the veil leaders. (Up to his old tricks again, I see). From New York: Well, 1 see that Janet Hodgkin and her family have returned from Korea where General Hodgkin has been stationed the past nine years. Rumors are flying that Janet has been understudying Helen Hayes and will soon appear on broadway. From Wapalo: Ruth Seybold, famous comedy actress, will appear here tonight in person to introduce her latest picture, “Zinnia Goes to Town.” This makes her txventv-fifth picture for MGM. and I hear she has been nominated for the Academy Award. From New York: The Hazlett and Glascock Paint and Water Color Company had a dedication today of its new building. In it they are going to manufacture a new striped paint. The Mayor, Bob Arvin, made a very stirring speech. From Hollywood: Neal Rogers, famous movie producer, has just announced his marriage to the actress Marilyn Monroe. Neal is quite a family man—this is his fifth wife. From Washington: Rosemary Weaver, Clerk of the Senate, is said to have fallen in lose with Senator Foster. What is Mrs. Foster going to do—call a recount of last November’s election?? From Indianapolis: I hear that Mr. Brown, former band director of Waveland, sets up his headquarters at the Clavpool Hotel every year during teachers’ association. I wonder what could be so interesting there??? From Waveland: Mrs. Bob Starnes, the former Marv Jane Wheeler, has won a prize of $500 in the National Art Contest. The picture she painted was of her seven children and their eleven pet cats. (I’ll bet Bob was sure glad to see that much cash with all those mouths to feed.) Page Eleven

From Blizzard Grove: It has just been reported that Mrs. Bill Wheeler, the former Juanita Greve, has been taken to the Buzzard Grove Insane Asylum because she kept seeing “flying basketballs.” The reason for this is said to lx that her husband talks about nothing but basketball. From Las Vegas, Nevada: When the police raided a gambling joint last night. Mary Overpeck, former Waveland teacher, was captured in the raid, because she caught her foot in the roulette wheel while trying to get away. From Hollywood: We just heard bv the grapevine that Martha Mason is now the star of the Bubble Bath Show, sponsored by Lucille HofFhaus. She does a bubble bath number every night. I wonder why someone doesn’t steal her bubble bath salts? From Sing Sing: Warden Daryel Newell has just turned in his two weeks notice. The reason given is that too many of the family are getting involved. His first four sons are in for murder of the other eight kids. From Bal Hindi: Bill Redden, former student manager of Waveland, is now packing suits for the great Minneapolis Lakers. He says it is a lot more work than Waveland was, but he has hired six men to help him. (He always was lazy.) From New York: A great tenor has been admitted to the Metropolitan Opera at last, after eight attempts. He is Robert Grimes, and he will sing opposite Sarah Snodgrass in the opera, “We’ll Always Stick Together, With Double Bubble Gum.” From Hollywood: Miss Cheesecake of “63” was announced today, and it was no other than Doris Pollock. Her manager, Mrs. Hazel Maehledt, said, “With a figure like that, you can’t lose.” Emmm—Boy!!! From Camp Kukamunga: Robert Harbison (former basketball star of Waveland) is now in the Army. Having acquired his coach’s training at Indiana State, he is coaching the Army All-Stars and Freddy (Speed Demon) Whitecotton is his star player. They have won all but one game. (They have just played one in the past year.) From New York: We have just received news that Web Eubank, former janitor of Waveland High School, is now head janitor of the Empire State Building. (I guess he prefers push button controls to shoveling coal.) From Crawfordsvillc: Margie McClure, Indiana's most eligible woman bachelor, is now living in her own apartment, and her phone number is Lin—264083. (She is now on the road to making her second million, boys.) From Singapore: I see where they have finally captured Mrs. Jennie Maehledt, better known as “Six Foot Under.’ Six dug up her garden for a graveyard and is now in China trying to rent them a burying place in America. (She always did have such funny notions.) Flash: What’s this in Churchill Downs? Dean Sowers, former Waveland student, is entering his champion black Angus, Flying Maggie, in this year’s Kentucky Derby. Dean is pretty sure to win because he has hired himself as jockey. WHAT NEXT!!! From Culver Hospital: Ed Iloffhaus, retired math teacher, is in room 1213 with minor injuries. It seems he was studying t x many angles to suit Lucille. Or was it curves, Ed? From Florida Beach: Jean Ratcliff, former fourth grade teacher, is now trying to teach Herman llazlitt Hall how to concentrate. On what??? From Detroit: We have just received word that Mrs. Doris Grimes, wife of the president of General Motors, dropped a match in a tank of gas which destroyed ten city blocks and injured 7,(XX) people. Doris always did do things up with a bang! From Kacongo, Africa: We have just received an interesting announcement. “Hep Cat” Walker and his “Boogie Woogie Trio” are playing and singing for King Dongalo and his Harem of Fifty. We understand that Walker looks real cute in his grass skirt. From Washington. Mrs. Foster’s new hair restorer is making a great hit in the White House this year. She said it was a lot better than the toupees the most of them were wearing. And that, folks, concludes our news broadcast for tonight. Hope you enjoved being with us. Tune in again next year when the juniors of 1954 bring von the latest news about the seniors of 1954. But before next year try at least one bottle of “Servies-Cure-It-All.” Page Twelve
