For we knew we had plenty to dread. With twelve years of study we had to compete. But now we are glad to know it's complete. Now we are going to meet many new faces. And continue our journey to a lot of new places. Some on to college for more education, Some will stay home for a little vacation. A few will get married, a job some will find. And with Uncle Sam, some may spend time. But well never forget, even though we should try. The fun that we had in old Waveland High. Let’s take a look back twelve years ago to one September morning when twenty-one timid stu- dents tottered into the care of Miss Moore (now Mrs. Foster) to start on that first road of school. They were Joyce Harris. Virginia Nunn, Elizabeth Frisz. Phyllis Johnson, Vesta Cotten, Doris Knowl- ing, Rosemary Miles, Betty Starnes, Alice Van Hook and Patricia Hodgkin, Ray Spencer, William Redden. Richard Statler. John Hallett, David Grimes, Max Pruitt, Jesse Carroll, Richard Tolliver, Robert Hester, James Miller and Eugene Handley. Mr. Clifford Hallett was our guide during the first years of our trip. We continued our journey to Mrs. Glasscock and School Road 2. There we had a new experience when we joined another class. We picked up a couple of new passengers, those being Hartmut Hessel and Bill Payton. We lost Richard Tolliver, William Redden, Alice Van Hook, James Miller, .Jesse Carroll. Virginia Nunn and Max Pruitt. We continued upward onto Road 3 with Mrs. Evans driving, and again we picked up several new passengers. They were Duane Kelly, Roy Leath and Lloyd Dwiggins. Richard Statler moved to Rosedale during the second semester and we gained Richard Lucas. Our journey on Road 4 was rather bumpy and difficult to travel. Mrs. Douglas drove for us for awhile until she had an auto accident which put her in the hospital for several weeks. During that time, Mrs. Machledt, Mrs. Hallett, Mrs. Harbison and others substituted for Mrs. Douglas. Riders gained were Carolyn Allen, Keith Morgan, Joyce Fulford. Violet Reynolds and once again Virginia Nunn. Those who got off during a brief stop were Doris Knowling, Lloyd Dwiggins and Richard Lucas. Our journey continued on to a much smoother Road 5 with Mrs. Grimes in the driver’s seat and us seated again' with another class. Duane Kelley was out most of the first semester as a result of an auto accident. Our group of passengers remained the same. Ray Miller led us as we traveled down Road 6. We stopped just long enough to gain Betty Law- son, Phyllis Bougher and Olive Wilson. Joyce Harris left us to go to Crawfordsville and Carolyn Allen went to Kingman. We then started up toward that steep hill of high school, and while on the road of junior high, we picked up Carolyn Dazey, Rita Martin, Carolyn Hayes, Bill Wheeler. Don Horton, and Opal Tracy. We lost Roy I eath. Our guide. Mr. Hallett, no longer able to continue with us, stepped off and Mr. Gale Grimes came aboard. Also we gained a few new passengers. They were Dale Sowers, Vesta Baker and Rose- mary French. John Hallett, Carolyn Dazey, Don Horton and Betty Lawson discontinued their journey with us. After what seemed like a lot of waiting, we approached that big steep hill of high school, which we decided definitelv to climb. While stopping for gas, Thurman Henderson, James Wasson. Charles Hutson, Evelyn Hughes and Bill Keller climbed aboard. Those who got off were Phyllis Johnson, Elizabeth Frisz, Vesta Baker, Rita Martin and Carolyn Hayes. A little farther up the hill, Ivan Brewer came aboard to be with us for the remainder of our journey. Those leaving were Phyllis Bougher and Opal Tracy. On the half-way mark of our high school journey, we slowed up somewhat to study the scenery along the wayside. Bill Payton, seemingly not liking the scenery, left us and we picked up Carolyn Hayes and Mercedas McGinnis. With a few more miles and our goal in sight, we again had a change in our guide. Mr. Victor Pence came aboard as guide with Mrs. Florence Servies under the wheel of our Senior bus. A new coach, James Hannah, replaced our beloved Cliff Davis. We discovered that during our process of changing guides, Virginia Nunn and Carolyn Hayes had left us. After a short rest from this long trip, we are planning another trip which will include New York and Washington, D. C., to add more memories to our years in Waveland High. March 28, 1952 Page Twenty-six 1952 SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY IIcllo, everybody, this is Bob Harbison, your roving reporter, coming to you from station VVXYZ. Tonight, we shall talk about the industrious seniors of 1952 of Waveland High School. From Indianapolis: I set that Pat Hodgkin has announced her engagement to a wealthy In- dianapolis banker. Having worked for him for the last six years, I guess she figured that it was time to cash in on her opportunity. From Hollywood: Word was received today that Violet Reynolds, dancer, has gone into seclu- sion in Beverly Hills until whoever snitched her bubbles brings them back. H-m-m-m-m! From Waveland, Indiana: Keith Morgan, famed orator, today addressed the Ladies Aid Society on the subject, “Women—Their Faults and Failings.” When last seen, Keith was riding out of town on a rail. From New York: Today the greatest lawyer in this city, the distinguished Mr. James Wasson, won his first and last case in court. He is retiring from the Bar tomorrow. He has been a lawyer for the last five years. We shall miss him sadly. From Los Angeles: Ivan Brewer, a graduate of Waveland with the Class of 1952, is now heavyweight boxing champ of the world. After being the smallest boy in his class, he now tips the scales at 286 pounds. From Raccoon Holler: Bill Wheeler, of the Class of 1952 of Waveland, and a graduate of Yale University, is now coach of the Bearded Demons basketball team. From Advance: Duane Kelly, piano mover, today gave a demonstration on how to balance a piano on each shoulder while doing the Charleston. From Wapalo: A diaper shortage! Mrs. Carroll Fruits has just had her third set of triplets. She is the former Vesta Cotten of Waveland, Class of 1952. The boys of Waveland all had high hopes, but they never had a chance over Carroll. “He was her man . . From Greene Township: Laurence Hazlett and Robert Arvin, formerly of Waveland, have de- cided to design, make, and sell ladies hats. For the past fixe years they have been in the diaper business. Time for a change, boys! From San Francisco: We have received word that Rosie Miles, Class of ’52, Waveland, has won the Miss Diamond Beauty Contest—because of her slim figure and collection of diamonds. She has won many contests, men, and diamonds. How many? ? ? Ask Rosie. From Skunk Holler: Mr. and Mrs. Donn Spencer (the former Rosemary French) announce the birth of a daughter, Wotta Mess. The little gal tipped tin scales at nine pounds, ten ounces. All the astounded father had to say was, “My land, another mouth to feed!” They only have eight. From Indianapolis: According to Professor Dale Sowers, famous in the field of psychology, the best (and only) way to be the boss in your home is to let the little woman have her own way. Speaking from experience, Dale? An advertisement from Waveland: Ladies, do you, have unwanted rats, mice, fleas, teachers and husbands lying around vour house? If so. call Green 304 and ask for Glascock. Machledt. and Ratcliffe, exterminators. What’s this I hear from Waveland! Today at three o’clock, Webb Eubank, former custodian of Waveland School, and now a great Shakespearean actor, was seen in Shular’s Pool Hall, cutting a rug with Doris Grimes, his leading lady. From Russellville: Rav T. Miller, known for his invention of a machine that can talk twice as fast as a woman, said today, “Oh, for the good old days, when Margaret could only talk about fifty words a minute.” Oh well, that’s life! Page Twenty-seven From the Metropolitan Opera: Victor L. Pence, famed soprano, and former principal of Wave- land (who gave up teaching with the graduation of boisterous seniors of ’52) announced that he will sing the lead in “Carmen.” From Podunk: After many years of sleeping through shorthand classes and much leisure time. Bob Hester has decided to go to work at last and open a business of his own. It s called: “Hester Servies, Gav Nineties Bathing Suit Company.” Mrs. Servies is Bobs secretary, salesman, chief mechanic for his hotrod, and number one (the only one) model. From Kukamunga: Betty Starnes, U. S. Senator from California, today announced that she will sit on top of a flagpole until she is re-elected to Congress. Better take plenty of pillows along, Betty, you'll need them. From Hawii: Ed Henry Hoffhaus, former math teacher from Waveland, was seen today reclin- ing under a palm tree, clad in a purple sarong, and crooning, “I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts.” (Ever since Lucille threw a rolling pin at him five years ago for spanking one of their triplets, lie's been out of his head, and thinks lie’s Bing Crosby.) From Washington D. C.: Secretary of State Fred Whitecotton. said today that he will be a candidate for president in 1964, running on the Prohibition party ticket. He has been campaigning steadily for the last 10 years. His party platform will be Let's Abolish School Teachers.” From Crawfordsville: John Ward, champion wrestler of this city, retired today because Mrs. Ward sewed lace ruffles on his red shorts that lie always wore in the ring. From New York: I will now bring you the results of the International Typewriting Speed Tests. The winner is the one and only Thurman Henderson, former graduate of Waveland, 1952, where under the direction of Flossie Servies, he obtained the speed of five words a minute. How he won this speed contest we shall never know. But you can see he has made cjuitc an improvement to win such high honors. Congratulations, Bull! From New Orleans: The shrimp boats are coming! Captain Ray Spencer brought in his 351st boat load of shrimp today. He is now undisputed shrimp king of the world. Upon his arrival, he was greeted bv the mayor, who gave him a key to the city made out of shrimp. From New York: Flash! A war has begun on Wall Street, and the reason is a monopoly. David E. Grimes, the great Karawula sheep breeder, has cornered the fur coat market. One of the main reasons given for the monopoly is that his wife Linda only wears a fur coat once and throws it away because it’s too dirty. Oh. to be rich! From Washington D. C.: Word has been received that Genie Handley who was president of his class in school, is also a candidate for president of the United States on the Socialist ticket. He's pretty sure he’ll win because he plans to give each person who votes for him a dollar. From New York: Charles Hutson, formerly of Waveland. is now head of the First National Bank of this city. He is happily married to the former Wanda Rose Hess, also of Waveland. They now live with their two children in a Fifth Avenue apartment. Very Ritzv! From Chicago: Evelyn Hughes Beane, who graduated from Waveland with the Class of 1952. is now Burlesque Queen of the world. She says Ernie and their little ones are on the front row at every performance. From Bal Hinch: Jim Hannah, formerly of Waveland School (who retired because the basket- ball team didn’t win the state championship) is now living a quiet and peaceful life at Bal Hindi with his wife and five children. His oldest son is is now cheer-leader for the Bal Hindi team. From Harvard University: The famed Herman Hazlett Hall, the world’s smartest man, has just told the world that he is now ready to put his new discovery, “The Remembering Soda Fluid” on sale. Herman, the former history teacher, left Waveland in ‘52 with the excuse, “I was just too smart for them; they were always 10 years behind me.” He has been at Harvard for the last six years working on his discovery so that the world can catch up with him and he can live a normal life. Good luck, Mr. Hall! And now until tomorrow night, remember, for the best in coffins anywhere, see N. R. Walker and Nlarv Ella Porter, Podunk. Indiana. To quote an experienced user of these coffins, “Porter and Walker coffins are the best anywhere! I've used them for years and I should know,” end of quote. And so with that cheerful note.
