We've always been told that our Junior year in high school would be our busiest and most eventful, and it has proven to be just that. Scholastically, the school maintained a stiff schedule for Juniors this year, with history, English and speaking, chemistry, shorthand, and Spanish classes on our programs. Our boys were active inall sports- football, baseball, track, and Intramural athletics. We also had a good representation in dramatics, forensics, music and' every other activity in school. Of course, it seemed a Herculean job preparing for the annual prom--but when the big night came, it all proved worthwhile. We used Roses as our decorative theme, and our gym became one hugh flower garden where Bob Lanferman and his queen reigned for the evening. Now that it's all over, we're ready to come back in the fall as Sophistactied Seniors. For our class officers, we chose Bob Lanferman, Pres, Phyllis Teska, Vice-Presg Virginia Bielmeier, Sec, Dave Skidmore, Treas. 5 Row I: Left to Right. G. Rogers, L. Schubert, T. Lemke, A. When we came to school as Sophomores, we discovered that our school life was different from what we had been accustomed to as Freshmen. We were given a year to learn to depend on ourselves, and we were expected to take a more active part in school life--to be heard as well as seen. Our scholastic subjects were more difficult, too. Biology, World History, Typing, English, Algebra, plus all our extra- curricular ac- tivities kept us constantly busy. Many Sophomore boys represented us in athletics, and we had representatives in all the activities in school. Next year we'll be back as Juniors to do even greater things. For our class officers, we chose Dick Martin, Pres, Allyn Zieg- enhagen, Vice-Pres, Mary Skidmore, Sec, Norma Speilman, Treas. Wwfkman Left ro Right Row I: I. Scorgie: J. Jaytner: B. Mi11er:B. Every other Friday this sigh of relief issued forth from the Oriole Staff as they met another deadline. All the students looked forward to reading the Oriole as much as the staff enjoyed put- ting it out, despite the headaches. It takes more than an ambitious editor - Jane Gerkeg and an able advisor - Mr. Schoeningg it takes the combined efforts and enthusiasm of the entire staff, reporters, typists mimeographers, artists, and sports writers. Credit and thanks are due the staff for devoting their extra time to this publication. Everyone looked for the latest Gossip, a regular feature, and for the Senior who was the Spotli ht. All in all, it was a successful year, providing good experience fir anyone interested in journalism. ii- I I - . PY g- if L.-. i S zllamqglufl Row I: Left :lo Right: J. Rose, D. Wilcox, N. The student librarians acquire an over-all knowledge of all the work that goes on in a library. Due to their efforts it is possible to make the library facilities available to the students every period during the day. This year the librarians sponsoreda carnival which was highly successful. The money was used to purchase badly needed library equipment. The club is open to any- one interested in library work and in giving a service to the school. Mrs. Baumann is the advisor. Here the boys are kept busy in their free time work- ing on projects for their home, community and school. Shortly after Thanksgiving, the club started repairing toys which were collected by the 4O et 8 . The fellows gave all of their free time and some of them even went dateless in order to work nights to help Santa in his big job of bringing toys to the good boys and girls. For a lot of the under privileged children of this county, the boys put the Merry in Merry Christmas. For their homes, some of the boys have been making projects such as lamps, what-not shelves and even larger pieces of furniture. They have given their parents plenty of reason to be proud of them. The school can well be proud too, for the club, along with the Industrial Arts Department, has aided in repair work for the school. Jfameg ' Glad 4. .... Row 1: Left to Right. G. Vetrone, C. When the purple shadows darken over the rassy meadows where the daisies grow. . . sang out fifty-six voices oig the A Cappella Choir. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday the choir met during the third hour and harmonized on many melodies including Hallelujah! Christ is Risen! and Fir-eflies . Christmas Carols were solemnly sung as the choir moved down r the auditorium aisles. Other appearances of the choir were made at the fall concert and the District Music Tournament at Westfield. The Wautoma A Cappella Choir maintained the excellent record of the past years and developed into a well-balanced capable group. Be- cause of the earnest and intense effort on the part of the choir and its director, Mr. Erdman, the class 'A' calibre of the group was again realized. Seniofz GEM The Senior Class presented the play, The Campbell's Are Com- ing on February 8, under the direction of Mr. Cramer. The play was a three-act hillbilly comedy. Kaye Brannigan, grand- daughter of Ma Brannigan, was supposed to be en aged to a local boy, Jeff Scudder, but while she was away to a city college, she fell in love with Kingston Campbell, a real playboy. When he and his mother decide to come to see what kind of a place Kaye's folks live in, Ma and all of the rest decide, unknown to Kaye, to put on a hillbilly act to make the Campbell's so disgusted that they will go back to the city and leave Kaye to Jeff. The Campbells do find the cabin the Brannigans are living in at the time a bit sordid, and Mrs. Campbell has another one of her faint- ing fits when Dick, who is playing the part of a moronic halfwit, comes up to her and starts eating macaroni that resembles worms!
