Mathematics ADNITNISTRATION TO SENIORS: To you the class of 1950, who have toiled so arduously to attain your goal, in your hands rests the future of this great land of ours. We hope that this will not be the end of your education, for in the words of one of our great men of today, Education makes a people easy to lead. but dif- ficult to drive, easy to govern, but impossible to enslave. Learning should continue until the day of your passing on, not only that kind of learning you encountered and will encounter attending school, but that learning to which you are being exposed every day of your life. In the days o come be alert to the changing world, be an active citizen of your community, state and natio'n, at least to the opportunity to vote, be intelligent when forming opinions--you need to know all the facts. ' You should encourafge a desire to maintain and improve on the poli- tical and governmental orm of life in our country because you believe in our form of democracy. Education is the means throughwhich you, Class of 1950, may learn to understand, to appreciate, to develop and to de- fend the form of democracy which is our way of life. Our guiding words were Enter To Learn and that is just what we proceed- ed to do. Our feeling toward those know- it-all upperclassmen were almost bitter, but we never let them bother us. Very quickly we traded our inferiority complexes for a feeling of belonging here and soon caught the disease of being active. A few of our more agressive members were taken into the various organizations and at the end of the year came back so much more confident. The band, F. H. A. , forensics, and football took the greater part of the active members. Now that we have passed the first hur- dle, we feel as though we've had a pretty successful year. So watch us go next year! A phase of instrumental training that every prospective bandsman must go through is the participation in Junior Band. It' is here that the students learn to play in a group. Many of the now detailed techniques of band playing are learned at this level. Such things as balance, blend, and musical effect are experienced on a small scale. The stress is placed on general getting-along together--teamwork. The group includes students from the fifth to the tenth grade. Upon completion of the Junior Band course, the students replace graduates in the Senior Band. Junior Band vacancies are filled by beginners who have progressed sufficiently to play the necessary materials. The Junior Band made several appearances this past year. They presented short programs at three Music Mothersmeetings and were well received. Several selections were played by the band at an all Grade School program. The band usually performs at the grade school basket- ball tournament held in Wautoma in March. Un er the supervision of Mr. Erdrnan, the group rehearsed once a week in the evening. g The theme song My Best To You adequately describes how interest- ed the group was in presenting pleasing well-rehearsed numbers. The library was varied, includin all the latest tunes of the day plus some Schottisches and even the Flying Dutchman . Yee hoo! ! The band performed at several school parties and dances after the basketball games. Since a comparatively small number leave the group this year, next year should find a good organization to fill the dance en- tertainrnent bill for the School. Through an earnest and intense effort on the part of the choir an its director, Mr. Harvard Erdman, the class A calibre of this group has again been realized. In addition to several public appearances in Wautoma, the choir a- gain presented concerts in neighboring towns. The important appearance was, of course, at the music contest held April 15 at Port Edwards. The loss of members through graduation is great again this year. Because they are willing to give some of their time for the good of their school, it is possible to keep the library open every period of the day. While performing their duties, these girls learn how to shelve books, file catalogue cards, accession books and many other details of library work. More than this, they learn to meet and deal with their fellow stu- dergsd and accept the challenge of daily responsibility. Theirs is a job we one. I I I I I I I 1 1 A I 1 , 1 1 1 , I . However, the co-operation of the student 'body was so great that the price was reduced to fifteen cents after afew months . The average nurnber of students who ate each day was about 135. Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Bartel were in charge of cooking the meals. They also had six of the students in the kitchen who helped with the various tasks. Since the nurnber of students who ate was so large, it was pos- sible to serve hot lunches until May 26, 1950. 2' if 16 ga: .13 V 5-X QNSQL 4 Ei WJ 9 W Q3 if S X V :A , VY K+-W,,x S X WM was W X A X X 5 AQ? gf ligne JESSE ' NSS n liens 5551 ,Q ,, ggf' X' 3 35.59 , i.5j s L M uf Q is x N gk Q X ? , 1 Q . fx, xii 4 S' -Mm mms-2, 0 mwwxg :QNX 1 KV' , wwwm, 51333 sw, 91:5 :gs-121+ w..U,.., A a s V wwf' A 'QW ev-,Jaw H . .
