. . . late nights, Saturday rehears- als, forgotten lines, hoop skirts, a guest performer. All of these add up to create one of the best theatrical productions Mr. Perry and Thespian Troupe 827 have ever attempted — THE KING AND I. From tryouts in January until performance time April 14- 17, well over 100 students from WHS and Elm Street worked diligently, learning lines, dances, music, and creating scenery and costumes. When the guest star — WHS alumnus, Emery L. Kedocia — arrived, everyone from cast to orchestra was ready to give their all! THE KING AND I is based on a true story about Mrs. Anna Leonowens and her son Louis. Mrs. Anna is an English schoolteacher who has been hired to teach the Siamese Royal children. She meets not only the King and Crown Prince Chululongkorn, but also head wife Lady Tiang, the Kralahome ( a prime minister of sorts ), Tuptim (a present from the Burma Prince), and Tuptim ' s lover, Lun Tha. Mrs. Anna slowly brings about changes in the King and in- troduces him to new concepts, such as the polka. It was evident that a lot of hard work, both on the part of Mr. Perry, Miss Czajka, and Mr. George, and on the part of the cast, crews, and orchestra, went into this show. It was an experience no one is likely to soon forget. CAST (in order of appearance) Captain Orton Shane Tanner Louis Leonowens Brett Kolb Mrs. Anna Leonowens Mary Jo Rossman The Interpreter Todd Kahrs The Kralahome Kevin Ladd The King Emery L. MAY 7, 1983 . . . HOLIDAY IN HOLLAND I don ' t know what to say. — L. Boyers 28 PREPARATION: The Juniors this year used a frantic, last minute Friday to prepare for the prom, while the Seniors enjoyed their day off. Lots of hard work by the Juniors and the Junior-Senior parents provided a beautiful Holiday in Holland, and a night full of games, boothes, a spookhouse, and prizes. All the months of planning and weeks of labor paid off with yet another very special evening. PROM: It was a big night for more than 300 Juniors and Seniors who attended the Saturday evening delight. It was a highlight of our school career, that chance to don tuxedos and formal dresses and escort that someone special. Good times till dawn began with the banquet in the high school gym. The students were escorted to their Dutch dinners while they en- joyed the scenic view of tulips, baby ducks, and an awesome sunset. Prom Queen Lynette Boyers and her date reigned over the dance and entertainment for the evening. ALL-NIGHT: The all-night party was truly a success. With plenty of games and prizes in the fun house, including the Kissing Booth, mystery booth (beware of pin-the- tail-on-the-elephant!), and bingo, you couldn ' t help but have a good time. The spookhouse was as gorry and wet as ever, sending chills down your spine. The movie The High Road to China was really a wet trip as it rained throughout the rest of the morning. Only the die-hards made it to the friendship circle at Burr Road to enjoy good food, good company, and the end to a great Prom.
