SENIORS LEAD SCHOOL OF AMERICANS TODAY SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Our goal has finally been won after many years of hard struggling. We are now ready to try our luck in this mammoth world, but before we leave we once more travel back over the last six years. The fall of 1940 brought a group of bashful, intelligent students to lN.H.S. Yes, we were they and we entered everything open to us. We went to the junior High Halloween l'arty for the first time. Vie also won the membership contest of the P. T. A. As eighth graders, we felt more secure and at home. VVe studied diligently and played much. Thus we planned and prepared for our first year in High. Freshmen at last. Under the inspiring leadership of Miss Money we collected the largest amount of scrap during the scrap drive sponsored by the school. Thinking we deserved a party we entertained ourselves on a hayride and then had refreshments at the school. As sophomores we eagerly entered Senior High activities for the first time. VVe gave a class party and charged admission to help pay the expenses of the Junior-Senior Prom. VVe also contributed several outstanding athletes to the varsity teams. I-finally we were juniors with a full year ahead of us. Vlie had to earn money to entertain the seniors. VVe gave a play, The Fighting Littles , the I-Hop which we called The Turkey Trot , and dances after basketball games. At the end of the year, we sponsored the Prom for the seniors. Also during the year, we published the Red and VVhite . VYe were guided under the leadership of Hal VVatkins as President, Hal Robinson as Vice-l'resident, and Virginia Lillich as Secretary-Treasurer. VVe had a very successful year. In the fall of 1945, we returned to VY. H. S. as seniors to finish our high school career. We were under the leadership of Bill Campbell, Presidentg Ralph Radloff, Vice President, and Virginia Lillich, Secretary-Treasurer. During the year we went on a hayride to Ridgeville with roller skating afterwards, and in the spring we had a scavanger hunt. In Klay, we attended the lunior-Senior Prom sponsored bv the luniors. Also in May, we presented The Late Christopher Bean and Husband For Sale . All during our four years of high school, especially our last year, we were well represented in athletics and scholarship tests. Thus, we ended life as high school students. CLASS OFFICERS . . The junior Hi Team was made up of quite a few oft he boys that played on the second team. They really made a good showing for XYauseon when they won the runner up spot at the Sylvania lfreshrnan Basketball Tourney. Coach Rupe deserves a great deal of credit for his work with these younger boys. A lot of the credit for XYauseon's winning teams goes hack to the training they received under Coach Rupe. Mr. Stewart: Coach Stewart was in the Army most of the athletic season btlt he was discharged in time to finish out the tail end of the basketball season. liiyerxone was glad to see him back and under his coaching the team was able to defeat Nlontpelier, Nlontpelier was the team that went to the regional linals, so this was quite a feather in our hats. Coach :Xl lladden: foaeh Hadden came to us from the Army too. He was top sergeant in the Army where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and many other terrihle contlicts. He started out the season in football with a very green, inexperienced team. But no matter how many mistakes the boys made he always had a good and cheerful word for them. His optimistic phrase no matter what happens they're still the best team in the world , will always he remembered by all who played under him. He was liked by all of the players and always seemed like one of the fellows rather than a school teacher. Coach lladden also directed basketball activities, although he had had no previous experience he tackled his task with a smile. He read many books on basketball and in an amazingly short time he had a very good working knowledge of the game . FCOTBALL HERBERT MEIERS: I-lerb was one of the fastest boys on the squad. He could be counted on to bring down the ball carrier no matter what his size was. - LOMAR VON SEGGERN: Lomar was young and a little inexperienced, but his size enabled him to power his way through a tough line. Lomar is only a sophomore and we expect him to develop into one of the toughest players in the league next season. JIM FIGY: Jim was inexperienced also, but his indomitable attitude made up for his lack of former training. ,lim was one of the hardest workers on the team. BILL STRAYER: Bill had a lot of weight and knew how to use it. If he had possessed more speed he would have been imprefznable on defense . He is a junior and will be back next year. ALLAN GALBRAITH: Galbraith was the biggest boy on the squad. His long arms covered a lot of territory in the line. GENE KRICIK: Gene completed his third vear on the varsitv. He was hampered somewhat bv a knee iniurv, but he could plav a whale of a game when he feit like it. JOHN RICHARDS: john could really rock em when he hit em, and after he mastered the new formation we used, he made a very good account of himself. lohn will be back next vear also. RALPH RAIJLOFF: This was the first year Ralph had ever gone- out for football, and near the end of the season he was one of the best ends in the league. He had an uncanny knack of being: able to hang on to pass. lil! IWOXIECK: Fd was handicapped by lack of size, but his speed and aggressiveness more than made up for his lack of weight. lid has another vear and should develop into a really great player by next year. HAI. VX'A'l'KlNS: Hal liked to bit the line and could be counted upon to ntake a vicious tackle when he got the chance. Hal will long be remembered for the touchdown he made against llehance on an intercepted pass. ,HM HONNARIJ: lim was the signal caller for the team. He was the hardest worker on the team and also a f1ne passer. NN'hen Howard carried the ball he seemed to blast his way through the opposing line. BILL CAMPBELL: A power plunging fullback, Bill was feared through- out the league because of his vicious tackles. Not only was he a powerhouse on dcfenseg he could block for his team mates. His punting also helped us out of manv tough spots. Q ' ' 'NN 1, I Sf 4 K .iii s Y 4 , . N,- ifcgffsgx gs xx vm, fx In 1 wg W -xg ix I3 F VK: me K - f p, ii?
