Key To Success Varsity - Boys - Front Row Brad Smrstock, Jerry Fenske, Dan Powell, Chris Stogbauer, Ron Hall, Back Row - Tim Paustian, Brian Cramer, Jeff Burk, John Glenetzke, Scott Andreas. The 1978 cross country team started out strong and really stuck with it. With four returning letterman they had quite a bit of experience and a lot of depth. They easily ran past the other teams at regionals, to capture the title. They went on to place third in sectionals. Jeff Burk was named most valuable and most improved was Ron Hall. Team captains were Dan Powell and Jeff Burk. The girls team started out somewhat inexperienced but grew to be a very strong team. They placed second in regionals and went on to sectional competition. The team captain was Mary Martin, most improved was Sharon Berndt and most valuable was Mary Martin.

Schwenk Tennis Anyone? The West Girls Tennis team enjoyed their best season ever this year. A record twenty-six girls went out for the highly competitive sport. The varsity squad finished a respectable sixth in conference action, with a conference record of 3-6 and an overall record of 4-7. Captains were Laura Fitzsimmons, varsity and Karen Frodl, junior varsity. Kay Lang boasted the best overall record. The team looks forward to a challenging season next year. Mgr. K. Borchardt
