Homecoming Candidates Finalists and escorts CL. to RJ: Dawn Niewolny and Sheldon Schlicht, Michele Kilinski and Mike Brandt Linda VanDenHeuvel and Dan Nieuwenhuis, Beth Knapp and Rick Sneider, Sue Lemmer and Brad Berndt And it All Began Like This . This year's homecoming was once again a week filled with excitement from class competitions, skits, floats, cheering crowds and the big game. But what probably triggers the most excitement and spirit is the competing of five senior girls for the honor to be the homecoming queen. Two weeks preceding the homecoming game, twelve girls are picked by the senior male ath- letes. The nominees for this year other than the above finalists were Carmel Braatz, Jean Carl- son, Cathy Casteel, Geri Christian, Tammy Hrdina, Kim Novitzke, and Tami Schmidt. The following morning the entire senior class chooses five candidates out of the twelve by ballot voting. By the end of the school day the ballots are counted and five finalists are named. Starting the next morning the girls have five school days to campaign. On Thursday during homeroom the members of all classes vote for this year's queen. Then the candidates have one day of anticipa- tion until Thursday night, the skit night, when last year's queen places the crown on the new queen.
