S. B. TOBEY Superintendent of Schools N 1905 Mr. Tobey was appointed superintendent of the Wausau school system. In that year twenty-five students were graduated from the high school. Nineteen thirty-four marks his twenty-ninth year, and the graduating class numbers two hundred seventy. During Mr. Tobey's term, four schools have been erected, several enlarged, and the Vocational School was added to the system. ' ln all his years as an educator Mr, Tobey has placed Service above Self, of which doctrine his own life is a splendid and shining example. He has ever strived to teach his students to look for the beautiful things in life, to see and appreciate the good in their classmates and all about them, and to work for the enjoyment gained and the good accomplished, rather than for the accumulation of material possessions. Vigorous, fearless, the constant enemy of sham and hypocrisy, the champion of the right, Mr. Tobey has lived for the youth of Wausau, ever vigilant to see that they be denied none of the advantages of education and enlightenment. The characters he has moulded are the greatest and sincerest testimony to his own purposeful life, Mr. Tobey's influence will long be felt in this community, and when he relin- quishes his duties on July first, he will carry with him the good wishes and esteem of the thousands of persons for whose education and development he has devoted nearly a third of a century.
