I comm Seniors ..... [Classes ..... f Faculty .... Organizations Athletics ... ['Activities . . . FRIENDSHIP If nobody smiled and nobody cheered. And nobody helped us along. If each, every minute, looked after himself. And the good things all went to the strong; If nobody cared just a little for you. And nobody thought about me; And we stood all alone in the battle of life; What a dreary old world it would be; Life is sweet just because of the friends we have made. And the things which in common we share. We want to live on, not becuase of ourselves. But because of the people who care; It's giving and doing for somebody else, On that all life's splendor depends And the joy of the world, when it's all added up. Is found in the making of freinds. 8 THE ADMINISTRATION, STAFF, AND STUDENTS WISH TO THANK DR. TOLLEFSON FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE, SUPPORT, AND INTEREST IN OUR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY. Dr. Tollefson moved to Wausa in 1954. He was appointed to the Board Jan. 17,1959 by County Super- intendents of Knox and Cedar Counties due to the reorganization of District 76-R. Dr. Tollefson was elected president at that time. During 1959 there was a bond levied in the amount of $314,000.00 for construc- tion of an elementary building and new office area in the existing school building. Dr. Tollefson served on the Board from 1959 to 1968 when he resigned due to health reasons. He was presi- dent all of those years. During that time of the Board, the bus barn was built, the present athletic field was constructed, an addition to the high school which in- cludes a library, music, science room, etc. was built. He was relected to the Board in 1975 to 1987 and was president 8 or those years. Dr. Tollefson has been interested in the students of Wausa High School, steering them toward higher education. For a number of years he sponsored a scholarship for a high school senior. Dr. Tollefson also supports all activities. Dr. Tollefson has been on the Board 22 years and presi- dent 18 years. Dr. Tollefson is past President of Nebraska Acade- my of Family Practice, has served many years on the Education Committee for the Academy, holds an Asso- ciate Professorship at the University of Nebraska Col- lege of Medicine due to his participation in the Precep- tor Program where medical students spent time in his office, and is a member of the Foundation Committee at Northeast Tech. Dr. Tollefson has also worked ac- tively in many community projects, securing a dentist for the community, and The Valley View Care Center. Two spirited spinster sisters conceal their poverty by explaining that they have to save their money to buy a Porsche! A niece doing a project for a sociology course appears with a blind and retard- ed child whom she has to leave with the sisters for a few days. Unlike the others who have dealt with the boy, the sisters have no blindspot concerning his condition and they make contact with the person behind the problem. It's a thrilling development but. unfortunately, they must deal with the blindspots of others. Magda Alsted Herdis Alsted Leslie Alsted Lou Pearson D. For breakfast, we stopped at SQUAW CREEK PLAZA. The trip to Kansas City was just starting to get exciting. Everyone was awake when our vans drove into the exciting city. Our first stop was Worlds of Fun. What a thrilling place to be! For some the next stop was Tiffany's Attic, a dinner theater. The rest of the kids went back to the Holiday Inn for swimming and games. The next day we stopped at the Crown Center, a large shop- ping mall. The journey back home was a sad one for no one wanted to leave. For supper, we stopped at a Pizza Hut. The rest of the way home was a quiet one for every- one was worn out from the trip. AWARDS NIGHT Awards night was held May 15, 1987. Various awards were given for honors throughout the year.
