A friend shares my laughter, And knows all my tears. A friend walks be- side me, And feels all my fears. As years go by, We're parted by days. I'll remember my friend, In such wonderful ways. A DAY AT THE COURTHOUSE In early October, selected ju- niors take a trip to Center for County Government Day. This day is sponsored by the Ameri- can Legion. By spending the day at the Courthouse, students are able to learn how local gov- ernment operates. They also learn the responsibilities that they must share as citizens. Students visit offices, view films and have a question and answer period. The work load is shared by the Courthouse and Legion officials. Prior to the trip, an election is held at school to pick offices. The year's activities began with six council and Y-Teen members attending the Planning Day at Grand Island. The Area IV Fall Con- ference was hosted by Wausa on October 22, 1977. The girls en- joyed a fun-filled day which was highlighted by the Sioux City School of Beauty dem- onstration and a speech by a former Wausa Y-Teener Kathy Frank. LEARNING TO SHARE IDEAS % WORK As the title of this page and the book suggests, it was people learning to share work, ideas ana the responsibility for getting this year's annual put together. Because of hard work and the advisor reminding the staff that their assigned pages must be finished by a deadline, all the deadlines were once again met this year. It is because of this coo- peration from the staff that this was possible. Those peo- ple contributing their time and creativity were: Shirlene Wischhof-editor and senior pages; Darwin Frevert and Gor- don Anderson-class will; Mary Puntney-junior and sopho- more class pages; Nancy Riley-freshman and junior high pages; Joy Johnson and Rich Tollefson- band pages; Deb Fink and Lisa Mainquist-girls and boys basketball pages; Gene Anderson-typing on the senior pages; Randy Repen- ning-grade school pages; Trudy Carlson and Rick Um- berger-faculty pages; Stacy Hult-academic pages; Dave Wiegert-junior high sport pages; Carol Eckstrom-typing; Tami Leisy- final check on layouts; Ray Rodgers-boys track pages; Scott Carl son-artwork for title page; Jeana Hamm- ad pages and Mrs. Fortner who did tne remaining pages not mentioned above. As the artwork pictured at right suggests, it is a real thrill and sense of accomplish- ment to get that final deadline sent in. In order to have a good annual, the advisor must take pride, care, cre- ativity, a great deal of time and joy in what she is doing. And it is through this pride, care, creativity, time and joy that makes the annual what it is. So as you are looking through this book, think hard, and be glad that the school has an advisor who cares. Enjoying the fresh winter air are (left to right): Darwin Frevert, Dave Wiegert, Gor- don Anderson, Gene Ander- son, Karol Riley, Rick Um- berger, Tammi Clarkson, Mary Puntney, Trudy Carl- son, Virginia Jacob, Stacy Hult, Shirlene Wischhof, Kathy Olson, Jeana Hamm, Carol Eckstrom, Lisa Main- quist, Deb Fink, Joy John- son, Nancy Riley, uheryl Wamberg and Carol Rodgers.
