The End Of The Beginning - 1977 Wausa Public School Wausa, Nebraska THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim. Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. THEME FROM MAHOGANY (DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU RE GOING TO) Words and Music by Gerry Goffin and Mike Masser Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to, do you know? Do you get what you're hoping for? When you look behind you there's no open door. What are you hoping for, do you know? Once we were standing still in time, chasing the fantasies that filled our minds. And you knew how I loved you but my spirit was free, laughing at the questions that you once asked of me. Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to, do you know? Now looking back at all we planned, we let so many dreams just slip through our hands. Why must we wait so long before we see how sad the answers to those questions can be? Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to, do you know? Q Copyright 1973 by Screen Gems-EMI Music Inc. and Jobete Music Co., Inc. Hand in hand we'd choose the moments that should last; The lovely moments that should have no future and no past. The summer from the top of a swing. The comfort in the sound of a lullaby. The innocence of leaves in the spring. But, most of all, the moments when love first touched me! All the happy days would never learn to fly, „ Until the hands of time would choose to wave good-bye. The team was plagued with the lost of three starters with injuries. It did prove to be an exciting year as many of the games were won or lost by only a few points. The Vikings lost the Conference Championship by one point to Osmond. Curtis Seagren, senior, was named All State defensive halfback and was named All Conference defensive back for the second year. Juniors Dan Ogden and Steve Dennis were also named to the All Con- ference team as a guard and a defensive tackle. The B squad earned a 2 -2 record so by the looks of things Coach Dittmer should have a fine season next year. The Vikings won 7 of 8 track meets, losing only to Class B Pierce and Class B Columbus Scotus at the Randolph Invitational. Highlights: winning the O'Neill Irish Relays, both the Knox Co. and Conf. Championships for the second consecutive year, and finishing the season by winning the C-3 District (one of the toughest in the state) for the first time in Wausa's history. The Girls Track Team got off to a slow start but finished stronger. Since the team will be losing only one girl, outlooks for next year's Girls Track Team are Dromising. Gone bright shiny days, Gone in a young and restless haze. Why did we love then run away? So little time, so much left to say, and now its gone. Young and restless friend, you'll never pass this way again, so drink the summer wine, reach for the stars while you have time. Life is something to be shared, for living means giv- ing some part of ourselves which remains wherever we have walked. But we are now, not tomorrow or yesterday. What is left of the thoughts and ideas we now have shown only in these pages, in our hearts, and in our foot- prints as we walk forward. Others may choose to follow them or make new. We can make our lives sublime, it is our choice. But whatever path we choose to take, our foot- prints will also be left behind us, left in the sands of time. 84
