DESIDERATA Go placidly amid the noise G haste G remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly G clearly; and listen to others, even the dull G ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud G aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain G bitter; for always there will be greater G lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, how- ever humble; it is a real posession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity G disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are bom of fatigue G loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees G the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors G aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its shame, drudgery G broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. Class History In the fall of 1968, 34 freshmen entered Wausa High School for four fun-filled years. The class included: Alan Anderson, Kay Anderson, Roland Barnes, John Bemhardson, Jeannie Block, Kathy Bratetic, Gloria Carlson, Ronald Claussen, Doug Cunningham, Eldon Eifert, Carla ElDorado, Clarice ElDorado, Dawn Enquist, Mike Ellingson, Pat Feldman, Jean Gunderson, Beth Holmquist, Vicki Hopkins, Carol Hult, Bev Johnson, Mark Johnson, Linda Kumm, Conrad Landholm, Carla Lauck, Paula Muller, Gregg Netz, Dan Munter, Larry Peters, Pam Prather, Mary Remm, Joan Rosberg, Pam Thierolf, Deonne Wangstrom, and Ron Wischhof. Class officers elected were: President, Kathy Bratetic; Vice President, Doug Cunningham; Secretary, Carol Hult; Treasurer, Alan Anderson. The Student Council members were: Dawn Enquist, Bev Johnson, Dan Munter, and Mark Johnson. Mary Remm was freshman cheerleader. Freshmen homecoming attendants were Bev Johnson and Mark Johnson. Class sponsors were Miss Voss and Mr. Story. During the year Linda Kumm, Ronald Claussen and Mark Johnson moved away. Thirty-one sophomores returned to Wausa High. Class officers were: President, Alan Anderson; Vice President, Pat Feldman; Secretary, Vicki Hopkins; Treasurer, Jean Gunderson. Student Council members were Clarice ElDorado, Carol Hult, Dan Munter, and Doug Cunningham. Miss Arent and Mr. Leapley were the class sponsors. Bev Johnson was sophomore cheerleader. Clarice ElDorado and Dan Munter were chosen Homecoming attendants. Eldon Eifert left our class during the year, and Vicki Hopkins moved away. Twenty-rune juniors entered high school in the fall of 1970. Junior class officers were: President, Carol Hult; Vice President, Mike Ellingson; Secretary, Kathy Bratetic; Treasurer, Larry Peters. Student Council members were Bev Johnson, Pat Feldman, Doug Cunningham, and Dan Munter. Bev Johnson and Jean Gunderson were Junior cheerleaders. Junior attendants were Jean Gunderson and Doug Cunningham. Class sponsors were Mrs. and Mr- Ankeny. The Junior class play, Lock, Stock, and Lipstick was presented on November 6, 1970. It was directed by Mr. Story. Juniors honored the Seniors at a banquet on April 30, 1971. The theme was Daisies in Bloom. Music for the dance was by Shattered Enterprise. John Bemhardson moved away durine the year. 7 ° In the fall of 1971, 29 seniors returned to Wausa High for their last year. Burkhard Blank, a German foreign exchange student, became a member of the senior class. Class officers were: President, Gregg Netz; Vice President, Clarice ElDorado; Secretary, Carla Lauck; Treasurer, Dan Munter. Student Council members were Bev Johnson, Carol Hult, Doug Cunningham, and Alan Anderson. Bev Johnson and Jean Gunderson were senior cheerleaders. The theme for Homecoming was Day is Done and it was presented by the Seniors. Bev Johnson and Dan Munter were chosen as king and queen. Senior attendants were Jean Gunderson and Doug Cunningham. Class sponsors were Mr. Johnson and Mr. Wamberg. Senior pictures were taken by Cook Studio in Norfolk. The Senior class play was presented in March of 1972. The Seniors were honored by the Juniors at a banquet on April 28, 1972. The theme was Moonlight and Roses. Music for the dance was by Milk and Honey. Baccalaureate was held on May 7, 1972. We see events, nations, and peoples through national filters. It is necessary to be exposed to the realities, tensions, and injustices of the world. International Christian Youth Exchange provides a means of confrontation, a release from the protective comfort of one national, cultural environment, and a better understanding between peoples. Through ICYE, Burkhard Blank from Germany, has been living in our community for the past year. He encountered many new situations and had to adjust to changes in his family, school, and community life. He acquired four new brothers and sisters in America and another set of parents. Burkhard found many differences between the German school system and the American system. He discovered sports to be the important here and was kicker on the football team. 16 ACTIVITIES Chorus Madrigal Triple Trio Boys Octet MADRIGAL: Dawn Enquist, Larry Peters, Beth Holmquist, Dan Munter, Carla ElDorado, Alan Anderson, Clarice ElDorado, Ron Wischhof, Pat Feldman, Mike Ellingson, and Kay Anderson, BOY'S OCTET: Larry Peters, Dan Munter, Jeff Erickson, Roger Moeller, Mike Ellingson, Ron Wischhof, Kevin Monson, and Alan Anderson, TRIPLE TRIO: Lorena Lind, Dawn Enquist, Bev Johnson, Clarice ElDorado, Pam Prather, Pat Feldman, Kay Anderson, Beth Holmquist, and Jolene Johnson, 20 Dramatics The Junior Class Play, The Whole Truth, was presented on November 12. Members of the cast were Larry Peters, Kay Anderson, Kurtis Whaley, Joan Rosber, Eileen Thorell, Roger Moeller, Gregg Netz, Debbie Beaudette, David Rosberg, Linda Erickson, Doug Johnson, and Norma Gustafson. The play was under the direction of Mr. Story. The Seniors presented their play, 'The Groom Said No, in March under the direction of Mr. Lundberg. Members of the cast were Dawn Enquist, Pat Feldman, Gloria Carlson, Mary Remm, Bev Johnson, Joan Rosberg, Beth Holmquist, Alan Anderson, Gregg Netz, Ron Wishhof, and Conrad Landholm. Three one-act plays were presented in March under the direction of Mr. Story with Carla ElDorado as assistant director. Janelle Cunningham, Donna Rosberg, Eileen Thorell, and Mike Ellingson, were members of the cast for Golden Slippers. Arlyce Vanness, JoAnn Kinkaid, and Roger Moeller made up the cast for The Half Hour. Members of the cast for The Playground, written by Mr. Story, were Nancy Kirby, Norma Gustafson, Clarice ElDorado, Carol Doten, Kurtis Whaley, David Rosberg, and Becky Beaudette. 21 Day Is Done The Homecoming theme for 1971-72 was Day is Done. The ceremony took place after the Wynot game. Dan Munter and Bev Johnson were crowned King and Queen. The attendants were: Seniors, Jean Gunderson and Doug Cunningham; Juniors, Chris Tollefson and Dave Hult; Sophomores, LaVonne Cunningham and Robert Albrecht; Freshmen, Beth Nelson and Tim Nelson. Megan Creutz and Todd Lusong Day is Done was sung by Alan Anderson and Ron Wischhof accompanied by Kay Anderson on the piano.
