A Squad Football Team Assistant football coach Harry Smith earned the title of slave driver even before school opened this year. The team began practicing two weeks before the formal open- ing of school and Captain Harry, too re- cently of the marines, put us through a rig- orous program of calisthenics. Boy, how we did ache! This conditioning paid dividends. however, in cutting down on injuries, and in building up our endurance. A glance at the score sheet tells us that it paid dividends, there, too. B Squad Football Team For the honor of the school the B squad reported night after night, took the calisthenics, Ctor- ture, they called itl. and the pound- ing necessary to make the A team of A calibre. They did have some opportunity to play teams of their own class: consequently, they had some glory to offset the grind. They enjoyed their year. Coach Smith and Coach Wright really gave them a workout. Now they are looking ahead to next fall when perhaps some of them will rate berths on the A squad. Yes, For the Honor of the School, For Dear Old Waupun High, night after night the B squad reported, took the punish- ment, rubbed their aching backs, grinned and went back for more of the same. 0 . how qk QM' M' X . cpwo xxx ' ,QF Ml' How 1 D Hash, B. Oh tor cram sake: are they blind? Iirn was wide open! Why didn't they play to him? Such cussing and discuss- ing was dished out to the basket- ball squad all year long by the vol- unteer sideline coaches, but the behind-the-scenes scrimmage di- rected by coaches Barkley and Smith was what really paid otf. Of the many who first reported for practice the coaches, by careful screening, finally selected these ten to make up the A squad for this year. Two preliminary nonconference games gave the squad practice and showed them where they needed polish in order to be ready for the first game of the conference sea- son. On the whole the season was good. Waupun tied for second place in the Little Ten, won the Regional championship, and col- lected consolation honors in the Sectional tournament. Our adviser for most of the year was Mrs. Bredahl. When, because of illness, she had to resign, we all missed her greatly. Much of the success of our organization was due to her interest and guidance. J.A.A. We're the junior Strong-arm gals. While our organization is separate and complete in itself, we do engage in very much the same activities as our senior sisters.
