It is my sincere wish that this school year has been a most satisfying one for you. Many of the things which we set out to do have become accomplished facts. I feel that we have gone forward in the right direction, and I give credit for this to the splendid cooperation given the administration by the student body, faculty, the board of education, and the citizenship of Wauneta in general. I wish for the outgoing students the very best, and hope that those of us who are left behind can continue to work for a better Wauneta High, and that we may make as much progress next term as we have this, toward that goal. (From yearbook 1967) Wauneta's school system is very ably headed by new Superintendent Bill Matthews. His sincere interest in the students and his excellent executive ability are evident to everyone. Mr. Matthews was formerly high school principal at Morton, Texas. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from Adams State College, Colorado and is doing graduate work at the University of Arizona and Texas, Tech. (From yearbook 1967) FAREWELL Students bid farewell to Mr. Matthews and his family after twenty years of service to Wauneta students and community. Mr. and Mrs. Matthews and their children, Mark, Steve, and Jennifer have been a part of Wauneta Schools and have contributed as administrator, teacher, and students. Mr. Matthews' strong desire to offer students the best education possible has left a positive impact on students and teachers that will last through their life times. Waunetans wish you well, Matthews family, and look forward to your visits home. An association of twenty years with a community of people and a school such as we have here in Wauneta is its own reward for whatever work we've accomplished and it is with no small regret that I and my family leave to work elsewhere. Whatever sense of home we possess is now firmly rooted in Wauneta and this school. It is with those very special and warm thoughts reserved for home folks that we say goodbye and honestly thank you for twenty years of patience with our faults and for being our friends. It is much too early for the new superintendent to know what a class' group of people he'll be living and working with, but be patient, he'll learn. 2 Bronco Boosters
