Roger Hager placed first in the 100 yard dash at the district track meet held at Charles City. Roger Palmer qualified for the state meet and went on to place second in the open 880 yard dash. Volleyball and basketball are available, for both boys and girls, But enthusiasm doesn't end with the players. Please, dad, you've got to stop. Pleading the case. THE DIARY OF While the workmen were near, complete silence was required. Look at what Miep brought us. The senior class play turned out to be a mem- orable occasion for both cast and the audience. Many hours of practice were put in by the cast and hands to produce what we think was one of the best plays ever given at Waukon High School. The Diary of Anne Frank combined some very entertaining moments with a plot showing very real- istically the lives of a persecuted people, The set design by Mr. Matthews, Mr. Bissell and Mr. Fitch coupled with the direction of Miss I had a cat once, Neprud and the hard work of the cast produced an excellent performance. BOYS' GLEE CLUB The Boys' Glee Club also has performed out- standingly this past year. Although they did not re- ceive a Division I at contest, they have performed so well other places, many have commented on their work. Just resting. CARDI ALS Our Girls' Glee Club, the Cardinals, do sound like birds singing. They perfect all their chords to make the sweetest music, which everyone likes to hear. Lynn Sherman, Eunice Rekward, Peggy Kewley and Kay Bigelow make up the drum ensemble. The sax quartet con- sists of Carol Flage, Lyle Hanson, Ed Lenth and Bruce Cameron. The very talented division I soloists were Betty Rieck, Mary Bulman, Margaret Nelson, Mary Rominger, Bruce Cameron, Don Brown. In wind trio were: Betty Rieck, Mary Rominger and Mary Taylor. Piano soloist receiving a II was Mary Taylor, while Mary Rominger and Dianne Clark received I'S. With these fine ratings most of the students feel that their work has not been done in vain. CONCERT After many long hours of practice our concert provided some splendid entertainment at the Spring Concert and art exhibit. At State Contest in Charles City we received a division II rating. Our handsome drum major, Allan En- yart, is shown at attention. Mr. Bissell, our fine director, is hard at work in his office. MARCHI G Our snappy marching band attired in their new blazing red and white uniforms was one of the outstanding bands at the Eastern Iowa Band Festival at Cedar Rapids this year, The band marched. downtown on various occasions and performed intricate manuevers during the half time of our home football games. Last fall we received a divsion I rating at State Contest for the third year in a row. TWIRLERS Our WHS twirlers and drum major. This snappy corps has really kept the crowds attention this year. They are: Sandy Gray, Betty McCormick, Marilyn Opfer, Allan Enyart Karen Roe, Mary Burrett and Shirley Maloney. Our WHS twirling soloists, Shirley Maloney and Linda Stock. Shirley received a l at State on both her twirling solo and flag solo, while Linda received a I on her twirling solo at State. This is the third consecutive for Linda and the fourth for Shirley. The proud State I twirling ensemble includes Peggy Kewley, Linda Shock Shirley Maloney and Betty McCormick. CLUBS ACTIVITIES The student body watches the pep skit, The climax of the day was the dance and goodies served by the Home Ec. depart- ment. Our snappy band marched. Our Library Club has been busier than ever this year signing out books and keeping the book shelves neat and tidy. Under the supervision of their faculty advisor they've done a fine job. TEACHERS' CADET When the teachers at WHS are gone, it looks as if there will be enough replacements, Miss Rueg- genmeier and Mr. Paar actively support our future tea chers.
