H Q 1 X 0 K ,. fs DQDICATITN The life of Noel Ross is well characterized by this photograph of him with his children. Having three sons nay have been one of the reasons why he was so interested in the welfare of our community and school and may be why he did so nuch for us. At any time when assistance was needed and we called upon Noel, he was always ready and willing to give us help. So in tribute to a fine person, we of Waukomis High school dedicate this, our 1947 publication of our school annual, to the memory of Noel Rosa. They share with us our joys as well as our disappointments and are our faithful companions and friends. Mr. Domnick, as Superintendent of our school has completed another busy year. He has led the school to honor and has faced any obstacles that have arisen. Though our thoughtless pranks may not show it, we do respect him highly and consider him one of our staunch- est friends. There is still enough diff- erence to give us a personality of our own. Twelve Years Ago, on the morning of September 5rd in the year of 1935, The patter of many small feet were heard in the halls of W. H. S. In the first and second grade room Miss Dorothy Masters looked around her and greeted the faces of ten new pupils- they were-Raymond Bergthod, Betty Jean Call, Thurlyne Cannon, Hazel Chapman, Buna Cokely, Marlene Miller, Maxine Odam, Billy Stucker, Huey Thacker, Carol Lovell. In the second Grade we had Mrs. Brinker. We lost two students. Huey Thacker and Hazel Chapman. In the third grade Miss Ruth Rudy was our teacher and we lost Maxine Odom and Bllly Stucker We galned Donald Rob1nson, Anna Bell Slavleck, Betty Jean Hromas Mrs Larcella Parker was our teacher in the fourth grade and we gained to our class Leonard Knipe, Raymond Knipe, Walter Caldwell, and Beatrice Semrod Our fifth grade year was taught to us by Mr Harry Sawyer and we lost no pupils and gained Luvilla Dean Hennekee and Pattie Peterman In our 6th year we lost Leonard hnipe, and gained Elmer Markes and again this year Ha ry Sawyer was our teacher In our 7th grade we lost Twilla Dean Hennede, Elmer Markes Fattie Peterman we galned Donnie Derrfey, Jerry McCann Betty Artlali, Cora Deerfey, Wanda Sigemore and Our teachers were Mr Sawyer, Mr York, and lr Belcher In the Elght we were taught by Miss Kane, Mr Sawyer, Mr Belcher, Mr York Ne Lost Dannie Durfey, Betty Cora Durfey, Beatrice Semrod, and Wanda Sigemore gained Richard Kruppee and Allan Sloub and later Then came the great day when we entered Waukomls School as Freshm n Our class roll for the yean Baker, Freda Black, Betty Call, Thurlyne Cannon, Artiali 'e lost Alla High was Royce Chester Felber, Rosalie Harrls, Betty Jean Hroans, Robert Lee Jack, Richard hruppee, Jerry McCann, Beatrice lalicek, Leola Perry, Vera Posplsii, Don Robinson, Alia Bell Slavieck Charles Schovanec, Vlrginia Suenram, Rohert Taylor, Joseph Zelnicek, Jake Sem ons, Alma Richasd, Mar garet Keenan, and Myself We struggled through innitiatio Class Parties and tests and finally passed to Sophomores in -i l Bff? Although we were a little unsuccessful this season, not one time during the season did we let our spirits kindle down, in fact we were more determined to meet our next opponet. Throughout the season we displayed our talent in sportmanship, cooperation and teamwork that has made Naukomis so famous thoughout the past years. Never were there any hard feelings among the players. Many times ours was not the winning score but the rating of sportmanship given to the Waukomis team will always be the highest. We were taught to respect our opponets rat- her than show ill feeling toward them. This season has been one of the most enjoyable per- iods of our lives Ne have tried to show our feelings toward not only our school, but to our coach and follow ers by playing good clean ball He give our humble thanks to the patrons who so loyally followed the teams throughout the season Now to introduce our players First on the list comes Thurlyne Cannon, one of our dependable forwards who did a grand Job last season when she became high point irl with a total of 960 points Thurlyne played center all sea on and with that complic ted shot she developed played a sea on of good ba ketball milla Dean Hromas, our tall and slender forward made h r debut! as a basketball player for the first time wills Dean racked up 215 points A mi tty good record for a beginn r Keep an eye on Willie next year Now you all know there is one on the team that al ways attracts a lot of attention while on the court, and of course I'm speaking of the style, curve, and hap of her basketball playin Thats our little burnette Betty Moor who had a fancy side shot that really look ed slick from the sidelin Betty is only a sophmora this year and will really ive the guards a pain in the neck in the future Jait and see ' It seems the sophmores are still in line so I'll introduce Evelyn Fuxa, another one of tho e t ll and slender virls that did a nice Job of guardi g for her first year Evelyn h ld her own throughout the season, and will make a very cap ble player next year when it comes to basketball let Beatrice Iilacek tell you a few of her experiences she spent tnree 'Ge -W ww . as W- x 1 Ja 'X I, or' 1 . . We laughed and cried together, and during a game it was like hav- ing the other half of you playing when Bea was by your side. When one lost her confidence the other was right there to get her back in the game. That's how we spent three very enjoyable years of basketball together. But it isn't always the main team that wins s ball game. Several instances this year the subs were called upon to get the team out of a rut. Wanda Brawley stepp- in several times this year and did a remarkable job. Wayne Jack collected 5 points in the Forward position and Roy Stutz, the cen- ter, gathered 4 points. Srnest Schulz, a guard, made 5 points, and Richard Kruppe came up with lpoint. Bob Taylor, a guard and eleventh man, was a defense player and let the others make the baskets so he has no points to his credit this year. Bill Fluman,a guard an twelfth man on our squad, was also a defensive player and left the basket making to the other men on the team. This season we made a grand total of 584 points to our opponents 625 points. As we look back on the past season we think of the good times we had on the trips and we are sure that we will miss this in the years to come Wilfred Herrian 5,x??,, 'ii' W 64 X v sf 4 I .: X 5 ' s Q in , f ' E33 2,594 ' P: Q 0 IX' 3.3 x co If ' V . fd .
