Mr. CLYDE SHIELDS April I, l904 - February 9, l959 He was a quiet man. And in his quietness he showed strength and firmness and love. He was quiet while we, as stu- dents complained of the uhardshipsn of our new school. He was quiet as he looked with pride at his school and at his students. He was quiet as he was firm in disciplinary actions. He was quiet as he watched with pride class after class of his students walk up to accept their diplomas and become men and women. He was quiet as he was steadfast in his convictions and strong in his beliefs. Through this quietness he gained the love, the admiration and the respect of all of us.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS LOVE THEIR BEAUTIFUL SOUTH CAMPUS, but it must be admitted that the building might be a little imposing to strangers. It's a tremendously big place, that is. until it becomes familiar. From 'cover the hills and far awayi' they came, seeking that wonderful new high school. Have you heard? Have you seen it? Even back in the i'hills people talked of the new South Campus at lVaukesha. To a certain brother and sister, this talk suggested a bright future. Late in August, Pete and Prudy set oPf to find this place and get their diplomas. All along the way they chattered of the things they would learn and the people they'd meet. YVhen they arrived at lVaukesha, the administrators and faculty sighed! These youngsters needed improved manners, and their dress! They certainly had a lot to learn. However, this fact made little difference to the students. The likeable Pete and Prudy were instantly swallowed up in a maze of activities. Pete, surprisingly strong for one so skinny, was pulled into sports. Prudy, not to be outdone, joined G.A.A. and loved it. Both learned an amazing thing: it was fun and very rewarding to play as a part of a team. llr. Duckett, senior advisor. spent many hours counseling and advising the pair to make sure they adjusted well. hir. Ludemann helped Pete train his hands to be creative and work precisely. Bliss Humphreys taught Prudy to be a lady and to make a home a pleasant place in which to live. Everyone must make a place for himself in society. Kir. Gavre said. American problems showed our friends how to do this, Time passed all too quickly. and Pete and Prudy found themselves graduating. Gone were all the mannerisms which once would have set them apart or stereotyped them. YN'aukesha High had done its work well. and now they faced the bright new future of which they had dreamed. 5
