Prospective Drivers Develop Practical Methods THE FUNCTIONS of the piston in the engine are explained to Lois Young by John Mahoney. Driver's Training All teenagers look forward to the day when they may legally drive a car. All the power put into the engines of our cars today makes us think a little more about the great responsibility we have every time we take a place behind the steering wheel of an automobile. We learn all about the parts, large and small, which combine to make our cars op- erate, we learn also how to get the most ef- ficiency out of them. Oh, what a time we had with all those many buttons, gauges, and knobs! Practice with the auto trainer unit made us feel more secure as we made test drives of our own on the side roads. Tests for accuracy, glare recovery, depth perception, and visual acuity showed whether or not we were physically Ht to drive cars. Driving could result in paying occupa- tions for many of us. Taxis, trucks, buses, and privately owned vehicles all offer the opportunity to make driving a means of earning a living. There is also the mechani- cal side of the auto industry which provides work for mechanics in garages and assem- bly plants. Whatever we do with our skills and knowledge obtained in driver's train- ing, the class will certainly have been a great advantage to us. nun-.-rzwzg .7-..
