In the early morning hours the key clicked in the lock as Mr. Key opened up the school. A few moments later a lone student wandered in. Then it happened! A large yellow and black school bus screeched to a halt in front of the Carroll Street entrance, and the first platoon of 2300 students poured through the doors. School had begun. Statistics showed a record enrollment plus eight new teachers. Many students found that they had classes in Union building Knot exactly a shock but a surprise at least.J September 17 was the date of the first pep assembly. That evening spirits were high as the bewhiskered Shirts clipped West Milwaukee in their first game of the season. The fans were also appreciative of the new bleachers that members of the faculty had constructed during the summer. October Campaign posters suddenly sprang up all over the place when the election of class officers took place during the first weeks of October. Naturally everyone voted. Girls prancing about in slacks and blue jeans carrying boxes of crepe paper were the first real signs of homecoming. The parade itself was a colorful affair with the queen and her court perched on an equally delightful Cadillac convertible. The entire team was taken for a ride that night, however, when Shorewood drove over them with a score of 13-O. The dedication of the new Y.M.C.A. the next day helped to offset this defeat. Everybody felt very proud and extremely lucky as they inspected the lavish interior of this million dollar project. On October 26 the freshmen, seniors, and faculty sub- mitted to the annual T.B. patch test. Final reports revealed no casualties. The first report cards of the year came out on the 28thg seniors who had B averages or bet-
