Industry eecls Competent Workmanship Commercial cmd Industrial Arts VVhat kind of a job are students ready for when high school graduation arrives? In an effort to answer this question to satisfy both student and potential employer, a cooperative training program for seniors has been arranged by both commercial and industrial arts depart- ments. Actual experience in Waukesha firms is provided in clerical and secretarial work, factory and foundry jobs, and retail selling activities. Joint supervision is provided by teachers and employers. Back of this specialized program have been basic courses in bookkeeping, typing, and short- hand. Neatness, speed, and accuracy were traits which had to be developed. In the industrial arts field, classes in woodworking, machine shop, electricity, and drawing each contributed to the growth of needed skills. Precision Work- manship and careful attention to detail were stressed at all times. Need a job? Need another worker? For trained people like these, there'll always be a job waiting! SPEED PLUS ACCURACY are a combina- tion which every typist seeks, but some- times an eraser's a mighty handy thing when midyskr suddenly appears on the page. BUSINESS MACHINES of today are given .Q q a workout in commercial workshop by these agile-fingered office workers of to- morrow. fAnyone for a coffee break?l ,353

Automobile Age Brings Driving Problems , . 4 THAT LITTLE BOX on the table is the object of Alan Quast's undivided attention. Yvonne Ebbott checks his visual acuity and depth perception with the precision of a traffic officer writing out a ticket. AT .FIRST GLANCE it might look as though Mr. Simon 15 directing the use of a record player, a peep show, and a stereoscope. Actually, these sophomores are testing Drivers Training Crazy teenage drivers may soon become extinct! Starting in 1954-55, drivers training was required of all sophomores. The funda- mentals of good driving were taught with emphasis on the laws of the road as well as the common courtesies of safe driving. Students used the latest testing devices, road signs, and films in this study. When they studied the various parts of the modern car, some fellows were rather amazed at the mechanical aptitude of their female competitors. It seems that some girls possessed greater driving skill and quicker reflexes than many a future hot-rodder . Poor driving habits such as hot-rodding were discouraged, however, and suggestions made as to correcting and preventing such dangerous practices. Thus one of the most important aspects of good driving-that of a correct driving attitude--was driven home. their reaction time, night vision and glare recovery, and field of vision. :le df 'WW 30 fgaln T is as
