A11 They Wanted For Christmas Was An A ter qualified for senior privileges, a pro- gram which freed them from study halls. That evening seniors investigated possible vocations at the Career Night program. November Students enjoyed a short vacation while the faculty attended the Teachers' Conven- tion. The Meg's adviser was elected presi- dent-elect of W.E.A.-another feather in Waukesha's hat. Mr. J. E. Worthington, W.H.S. principal from 1918 to 1949, died unexpectedly at this time, thus ending many years of fine service to the community. A scholarship fund was created in his memory. Those strange boxes up near the ceiling of every classroom turned out to be the speakers of the new P.A. system. The toll- ing of the chimes and Miss Bugb,ee's your attention please became familiar to every- one. All this while the new student parking lot was being put to good use, each student- driver having a special stall for his heap . December Basketball was the main topic for conver- sation as students discussed plans of defend- ing last year's championship title. Concern was expressed by all when the opener was dropped to South Milwaukee, 59-45. Christ- mas and the holiday spirit invaded every nook and cranny at W.H.S. A number of students participated in the Xmas sales training program with their eye on some gift money . Numerous Christmas trees and the annual A Cappella programs char- acterized the last few weeks before Christ- mas vacation. December 15 marked the 100th anniversary of the Y.W.C.A. and the ever active Y-Teens chose Arlene Bennett as queen of the Winter Wonderland formal. December 22 was the last day of school in 1954. Students kidded one another about coming back to school sometime next year. UNACIMIENTOH is a part of every Spanish home's Christ mas. In the early morning hours the key clicked in the lock as Mr. Key opened up the school. A few moments later a lone student wandered in. Then it happened! A large yellow and black school bus screeched to a halt in front of the Carroll Street entrance, and the first platoon of 2300 students poured through the doors. School had begun. Statistics showed a record enrollment plus eight new teachers. Many students found that they had classes in Union building Knot exactly a shock but a surprise at least.J September 17 was the date of the first pep assembly. That evening spirits were high as the bewhiskered Shirts clipped West Milwaukee in their first game of the season. The fans were also appreciative of the new bleachers that members of the faculty had constructed during the summer. October Campaign posters suddenly sprang up all over the place when the election of class officers took place during the first weeks of October. Naturally everyone voted. Girls prancing about in slacks and blue jeans carrying boxes of crepe paper were the first real signs of homecoming. The parade itself was a colorful affair with the queen and her court perched on an equally delightful Cadillac convertible. The entire team was taken for a ride that night, however, when Shorewood drove over them with a score of 13-O. The dedication of the new Y.M.C.A. the next day helped to offset this defeat. Everybody felt very proud and extremely lucky as they inspected the lavish interior of this million dollar project. On October 26 the freshmen, seniors, and faculty sub- mitted to the annual T.B. patch test. Final reports revealed no casualties. The first report cards of the year came out on the 28thg seniors who had B averages or bet-

UNDERGOING the rigors of T.B. patch tests did not prove fatal to freshman students, who came out of this painful affair with beaming faces.
