Rush And Spirit SIGNS OF CHRISTMAS seem to pop out all over! From geometry to Spanish class, the bulletin boards acquire a great variety of decoration and color. In room 204, it's Feliz Navidad instead of Merry Christmas as Henri- ette Schmidt, Joyce Cramer, and Celia Munoz complete their holiday task. The Christmas tree in the lower hall is the annual project of the Honor Society. The girls manage not to knock the tree over as they gather to add the tinsel, the icicles, and other trimmings. Even the physics lab succumbs to the Christmas season. Messrs. Kohls and Horwitz come up with a scientific tree topped by the airplane fsuccessor to Santa's reindeer?j FORESHADOW OF a successful season! Bob McClintock churns the water to help our team to second place in the triangular meet with Bay and Tosa. Anxious team mem- bers give verbal assistance. Go Slightly Mad Dver askelball! UNSEEN BY THE AUDIENCE who viewed The New Moon, this scene in the upper corridor has Frank Marzocco about to run through Ray Lyle- with such fiendish glee, too! A FEW SPIRITED NOTES were blown by our pep band as Waukesha turned out to pay tribute to our basketball team. Like our team, the pep band was one of the best at the tournament. f Excuse our modestyj ..13- JANUARY The Christmas social whirl is over, and even the Y-Teens Winter Wonderland Dance is iust a memory. Most of us settle down to going to bas- ketball games-wishing for snow-and studying with one eye on the calendar, for January 29 is the end of first semester. Symphony concerts are something we are get- ting used to but the Young People's Concert .lan- uary l9 is something special-especially to our orchestra, for they have been invited to play the Scherazade with the Waukesha Symphony. Extra practice sessions are rewarded on the big night when a long round of applause rings out for a performance well done. FEBRUARY February starts on a sour note for some- depending on whose report card you look at. Strains of Stout Hearted Men and announce- ments about chorus practice advertise the month's feature attraction, The New Moon. With its beautiful costumes, its lovely music, and its big cast, The New Moon delights us all during the week of February l7-20 lSee page 58-591. Basketball honors come our way, for February 26 we become Suburban Champions. MARCH There's only one word to describe March- basketball! March 6, our team wins the regionals at Shorewood, and we begin singing We'll chalk up another victory when the Shirts come marching in. March 13, we follow the team to victory at the Bay sectionals. Now ranked No. l in the state, with pictures in every paper every night, our team remains much calmer than we do! Even report cards are postponed for a week as school dismisses early to get to Madison for the opening game, March l8. By night our castles in the air have come tumbling down, for we lose! But the team comes back next day, and in two thrillers we take the State Consolation! lSee the sports section., A triumphant home- coming on Sunday, March 21, is followed by congratulatory assemblies Monday. Tuesday we all let out a deep sigh and realize that for all this month we have read, talked, and lived bas- ketball, and now it's all over!
