OurMelodiesA1zc!PleasingHcz1'm0niesFill Tbeflir ORCHESTRA Fifty of Waukesha High's best musicians meet three times a week in our Carnegie Hall - Edison band room to you people who are hard to convince. Anyone who has musical talent and is willing to practice is allowed in the group, and under the able direction of Mr. Tilly, our local longhairs delve into the secrets of fine music, and it should be stated, with a high degree of success. Many of PEP BAND - TOP ROW. Oravez Ellenson, Pollard, Eckberg, Mitch ell, Wollenzien, Koloske, Peter- son. BOTTOM ROW: Schwartz, Schneider, Katzner, Findling Barndt, Mueller. the members go on to play in the Waukesha Sym- phony Orchestra which has gained nationwide recognition. The orchestra favors us with several assembly programs each year, and the greater public is allowed to hear their accomplishments at the an- nual concert. A few of the students in the orchestra belong to local dance bands, and find the instruction which they have received helps them greatly in this medium. XE 'can f25l

These have helped to bring about many a victory for the Mighty Men of Waukeslia High. Playing at all our spectator sports, these fellows and gals have what it takes to boost our spirits when the going gets tough. In direct opposition to the Pep Band we have the Tenth Grade Ensemble and the Eleventh Grade Triple Trio. Musical groups with a soft, mellow touch, designed for those who have the time, in- terest and ability to devote to entertaining various service and womens clubs, church groups and themselves. E221

This ad never appeared in print, but that's what Mr. Schroeder and Miss johnson want. Debating is more than just talking. At school and on our own we delve into facts and do research on the questiong this year on the Welfare State . Because the question mirrors current problems, reasoning out our cases is a challenge. The logic of an argument is the key to a debater's success, but we also learn to acquire speaking ability and poise. The out of town trips for practice debates were high spots of the season. Although Waukesha didn't place in the N.F.L. tour- nament, other fields of forensics fared better. In serious and humorous declamations and ex- temporaneous speaking, Wztukeslia students re- ceived A ratings at the tournament, but extem- poraneous reading and oratory didn't make top grades. These contests are held on an elimination basisg district, regional and state.
