It was fun to be ap- plauded loud and long at Carroll College Convo- cation and even those long hours of practice and more practice were fun. Well never forget the thrill of the annual Christ- mas concert. One hundred and twelve voices clear- ly singing Adeste Fidelesn as the procession moved toward the stage, the beautiful nativity tableaux and the reverent tones of the soloists made a mem- orable program. We may never sing for another symphony but there was the night when we sang with the Wau- kesha Symphony. Then came our formal spring concert and our last appearance at Baccalaureate. Miss Monlux turned over the direction to our president, Joe Arreazola, and we sang The Lord Bless You and Keep You. With this benediction, our musical year closed. The Madrigal's year has been an active one too. These twenty students represent the choir in rnusi- cal programs for clubs, assemblies and community groups. From their new arrangement of jingle Bells to their serious study on the history of music, the Madrigal ensemble has added much to the listening pleasure of many audiences, 91

Our Troubles Are Through SENIOR BAND I hear music, but there's no one there . . . V That's what all the students in Edison study hall think as they listen to the band practice diligently every afternoon in the room just above. But those blasts of trumpet, the mellow sounds of the wood- winds, and the clang of the cymbals are all in har- mony in time for the first football game of the season. ln the crisp fall air the rousing music matches the brisk mood, as the seventy members of the band lend a background for our energetic cheering. In the gay, braid trimmed uniforms the band goes through their sprightly-precision forma- tions the half-time, led by the pert and pretty drum majorettes. The Pep Band, a smaller fifteen mem- ber part of the Senior Band, capably takes over for the basketball season. Their exhuberant good spir- its are so contagious that they pep up everyone - the team and spectators alike. A flip of the wrist and a turn of the dial has brought us the band on several other different occasions, via the air waves. The Clarinet Quartet, another small band group, has also had several special spots on the radio this year. At other times, a short walk has given us a chance to hear the band, very ably led by the bandmaster, Mr. Carl Dollinger, for our as- semblies and concerts. One of the final public appearances of the band was the annual spring concert, held on April 4, in the auditorium. There we heard many of the rhythmic melodies and gay marches, so much a part of the band. From the sour notes to sweet notes, those long hours of practice have brought the band through on a high C, and so our band plays on! i211
