Language Arts Courses Stress Critical Thinking ts. i The ability to communicate is an important goal reached in speech classes. Jane Drew, Ken Rice, Nancy Hull, and Greg Knop are above. WTHS's up-to-date Language Arts Department, headed by chairman Mrs. Melba Wixom and assistant Mrs. Ellen Bay, oifers a variety of subjects including French, German, Latin, Spanish, speech, drama, debate, journalism, and Wu World. The courses comprise an integrated pro- gram of writing, speaking, reading, and listening. Each stresses critical thinking rather than rote memorization. Literature studied in the language courses binds the present-day reader to the rest of mankind. The goal of all language communication is growth and improvement in effective communication. Numerous extra-curricular activities also help enlighten the student. Tlze West Campus library opens new fields of literary study for English classes.
